Samoa Travel Growth Accelerates as international visitors generated Two Hundred One Million US Dollars in tourism revenue in 2025, driven by strong visitor spending, high traveller satisfaction and continued demand from key overseas markets. The Pacific island destination recorded a significant economic boost from international tourism, with visitors contributing through accommodation, activities, transport, food services and other tourism-related sectors. The latest visitor survey highlights Samoa’s growing appeal among global travellers, supported by longer stays, strong return intentions and positive experiences, while also providing insights into areas that can further strengthen the country’s tourism development and future competitiveness.
Samoa’s tourism sector delivered a major economic contribution in 2025, generating an estimated US$201 million (WST563 million) through international visitor spending as overseas arrivals continued to support businesses, communities and the wider island economy.
The latest International Visitor Survey revealed that international travellers spent significantly across accommodation, activities, transport, food services and other tourism-related sectors. The findings highlight the growing importance of tourism as a key economic driver for Samoa while providing valuable insights into visitor behaviour, spending patterns and travel preferences.
According to the survey, international visitors recorded an average total expenditure of US$1,136 per trip during their stay in Samoa. Direct spending within the destination averaged US$726 per visitor, while prepaid travel expenses reached an average of US$745 per trip.

The research estimated that around 55 per cent of prepaid expenditure benefited the local economy, supporting tourism operators and businesses connected with international travel.
The economic impact reflects the broad role played by tourism across Samoa. Visitor spending contributes not only to hotels and resorts but also to restaurants, transport providers, cultural experiences, attractions, retail outlets and locally operated tourism services.
The survey findings underline how international travel creates economic opportunities beyond traditional accommodation providers by distributing visitor expenditure across multiple parts of the tourism supply chain.
Samoa continued to attract strong demand from its major international visitor markets, with New Zealand, Australia and the United States remaining the country’s leading sources of international travellers.
Visitors travelled to Samoa for a variety of reasons, with holidays representing a major motivation. Travel to visit friends and relatives also remained an important segment, reflecting Samoa’s strong cultural and family connections with overseas communities.
Other key travel purposes included family fa’alavelave, weddings and business visits, showing that Samoa’s international tourism sector benefits from both leisure and social travel.
International visitors stayed an average of nine nights, providing opportunities for travellers to explore Samoa’s landscapes, cultural heritage, activities and local experiences while contributing to longer-term tourism revenue.
The length of stay also demonstrates Samoa’s appeal as a destination where visitors can enjoy a slower-paced island experience compared with shorter international breaks.
The survey recorded exceptionally positive feedback from international travellers, demonstrating strong satisfaction with Samoa’s overall tourism experience.
Around 96 per cent of visitors said they would recommend Samoa to others, while 92 per cent indicated that they would consider returning to the destination in the future.
The results reflect the country’s ability to create memorable experiences through its natural environment, cultural traditions and welcoming communities.
Visitors expressed high satisfaction with the friendliness of Samoa’s people, which remained one of the strongest elements of the destination experience.
Travellers also responded positively to the country’s range of attractions and activities, as well as the airport arrival experience and their overall journey through Samoa.
Strong satisfaction levels provide an important advantage for Samoa as destinations worldwide compete for international travellers seeking authentic experiences, cultural connections and high-quality hospitality.
While visitor feedback remained highly positive, the survey also highlighted several areas where further improvements could enhance Samoa’s competitiveness as an international tourism destination.
Travellers identified customer service, the pricing of goods and services, waste management, cleanliness and public infrastructure as areas requiring continued attention.
Improving these areas could help strengthen visitor confidence while ensuring that tourism growth delivers long-term benefits for both travellers and local communities.
Maintaining high service standards and investing in supporting infrastructure will remain important as Samoa continues attracting visitors from established and emerging international markets.
The findings provide valuable guidance for tourism stakeholders seeking to improve destination management, develop new visitor experiences and enhance the overall quality of travel services.
