At last, Australia took away all bans related to travel and has reopened its borders for vaccinated travellers. Western Australia turned out to be the last state to raise border restrictions on Thursday. Therefore, making the borders of Australia reopen for tourism after remaining closed for quite some time.
Western Australia, covering one third of the land area of the country in 2020 closed its entire border area to all international and interstate travellers to arrest the spread of COVID-19.
However, on Thursday, the state lifted restrictions, four months after Sydney started its phased reopening of quarantine-free travel along with vaccinated tourists becoming eligible for visas.
On Thursday, the airport in Perth experienced some major scenes of emotional reunions as the first of a scheduled 22 domestic flights and five international flights started arriving.
Successfully Western Australia had stopped the spread of the coronavirus locally by contract tracing and isolating carriers until the highly contagious omicron variant arrived this year.
Now, the state reports over 1,000 new infections every day.
“Australia is now finally back together,” Qantas Airways chief executive Alan Joyce said. “This day has been a long time coming.”
