Four Seasons Maldives Hospitality Apprenticeship Programme has marked a milestone after twenty-five years in existence, which the organization celebrated in style on April 18, 2026. Over a thousand Maldivians have benefitted from the program, with most of them holding senior positions within the international hospitality industry. It is important to note that the duration and longevity of the program have made it the oldest of its kind in the entire Indian Ocean region.

An anniversary party at the MNU Auditorium in Malé celebrated the graduation of the Class of 2026, composed of 77 successful graduates. The ceremony also welcomed the newest batch of students – the Class of 2027. The new class of students comprised 15 successful candidates, out of more than 300 applications received from 28 islands and 15 atolls. The event marked another milestone year for the Four Seasons Maldives Hospitality Apprenticeship Programme as it has significantly transformed the face of the hospitality sector in the country.

From Humble Beginnings to Industry Leadership

Launched in 2001, the Four Seasons Maldives Apprenticeship Programme started with just five apprentices. This bold initiative aimed to address the shortage of trained Maldivian professionals in guest-facing roles within the luxury hospitality industry. Just one year later, all five graduates had secured roles in the tourism sector, setting the stage for what would become a leading educational programme for hospitality careers.

As the programme gained recognition, it became the first TVET-certified apprenticeship scheme in the Maldives, offering government-accredited training and nationally recognized qualifications. With 14 diverse career pathways, including Culinary Arts, Marine Conservation, Engineering, and Diving, the apprenticeship has played a pivotal role in building the Maldives hospitality workforce, fostering the development of future tourism leaders and professionals across the industry.

Immersive Training and Real-World Experience

A key element of the apprenticeship is its immersive learning model, which combines technical training with real-world experience. Apprentices live and work on Four Seasons resort islands, immersing themselves in a luxury environment that mirrors the hospitality standards they will encounter in the global market. Introducing the Marine and Environmental Science Pathway

In 2026, the Four Seasons Maldives apprenticeship programme introduced a new, fully funded Marine and Environmental Science pathway, designed to address the growing demand for sustainability professionals within the Maldivian tourism sector. This pathway, developed in collaboration with the Maldives National University (MNU), focuses on the training of future marine biologists, ocean scientists, and sustainability leaders.

The programme’s four-year apprenticeship combines academic study with fieldwork at the Four Seasons resorts and will result in a Bachelor’s degree in Marine and Environmental Science. The inclusion of this pathway aligns with the Maldives’ pressing need for local expertise in environmental conservation and sustainability, particularly in the face of climate change and rising sea temperatures.
