From 2023, Onam is set to get international

On this Monday evening, the week-long Onam celebrations which were arranged by the state Government of Kerala came to an end.

P. A. Mohammed Riyas, the Tourism Minister of Kerala, explained that no stones will be kept unturned to take the event to the world stage in 2023 by making a big plan on the lines of the La Tomatina festival of Spain.


On September 6th, the state-wide Onam celebrations had started and concluded on this Monday evening with colorful cultural show in Thiruvananthapuram, the state capital.


Riyas at the time of inaugurating the Onam celebrations at Nishagandhi, Kanakakunnu Palace Grounds, said that by emphasizing a global aspect to the festival, Kerala will succeed in drawing greater number of tourists from abroad during the season and make sure their active participation in various cultural activities.


The minister said that the Tourism Department will try its best to take the event internationally by planning big, at par with Spain’s La Tomatina festival in 2023.


V Sivankutty, Minister for General Education, had presided over the event.


The Onam celebrations for 2022 turned out to be an extraordinary one with vast participation of the public and the astounding performances of the artistes.

Actor Asif Ali was the chief guest and he termed the marvelous success of Onam as a major achievement by the Kerala Government and its Tourism Department.


At the event, MLAs D K Murali and IB Satheesh, Councillor Reena, Kerala Tourism Director, PB Nooh, were present as well.
