Marking 55 years of investment in the Kansai region, Europe’s largest airline group, Lufthansa Group, continues its enduring tradition of linking Japan’s Kansai region with Germany. Since 1969, Lufthansa German Airlines has facilitated direct connectivity between the cultural and historical hub of Japan, encompassing Kyoto, Osaka, Nara, and Kobe, and the European nation of Germany.

Over the span of five decades, significant transformations have taken place, yet the bond between Lufthansa Group and Japan remains robust, fostering continuous development. Last year saw the reintroduction of Japanese catering across all cabins on flights between Japan and Germany by Lufthansa, with SWISS also introducing Japanese cuisine in Business Class for connections between Switzerland and Tokyo.

The extensive Lufthansa Group network in Japan encompasses direct links to Haneda, Narita, and Osaka airports, offering 31 weekly flights during the 2024 summer schedule. Notably, there will be a significant increase in connections from Munich to Kansai airport this year, as highlighted by Larry Ryan, Senior Director Sales for Japan and South Korea.

“Based on customer needs, we’re extremely pleased to be able to return to daily operations from Kansai to Munich, enabling connections via our 5-star hub to the entire European continent and beyond.   This is particularly exciting as we see so many of our partners gearing up for Expo’25 in the Kansai area.”

To honor Japan’s rich heritage and our enduring connections to the nation, Lufthansa Group is delighted to mark this significant anniversary by boosting capacity and reinforcing our commitment to investing in the Kansai region of Japan.
