Global Travel Platform Civitatis Celebrates One Million Mexican Users, 94% Choose International Tours

Civitatis, the premier online platform for booking guided tours, activities, and excursions in Spanish, operates in 160 countries globally. This week, the company announced that it has achieved one million bookings from Mexican users, with 94% opting for destinations outside Mexico.

The announcement came during Civitatis’ participation in the 48th Tianguis Turístico, held in Acapulco, Mexico, where the company highlighted its significant growth in the region and the strong interest among Mexican travelers in international travel.

Spain is the top destination for these travelers, followed by Italy, France, the United Kingdom, and the USA. This preference suggests a trend of Mexican tourists favoring Europe and the USA over other Latin American destinations like Colombia or Peru.

The most popular cities for outbound Mexican tourists are Paris, Rome, Madrid, Barcelona, and London, with the majority of bookings concentrated in these cities.

A breakdown of the one million bookings reveals diverse travel preferences: 28% of bookings were made by couples, 17.8% by solo travelers, 14.8% by families with older children, 5% with younger children, and 14% by groups of friends.

Mexico is a flagship market for Civitatis, not only in Latin America but globally, and shows the value of Mexico as a source market for international travel.

“Spanish, the second most spoken native language globally, boasts 600 million speakers worldwide, making it the second most widely-spoken native language globally, behind Mandarin and ahead of English, with Mexico leading the pack with 113 million natives. In 2023 alone, Mexico saw a staggering 46 million departures, underscoring the immense influence of the Spanish-speaking market, particularly the Mexican segment, in global travel.”
