GoHimachal offers free shelter, food to stranded tourists in Manali

As Himachal Pradesh deals with a serious flood problem caused by excessive rain, many tourists have been trapped owing to a poor or non-existent cellphone network. In response, GoHimachal, a tourism firm in the state, has stepped up to give free housing and help to these stranded travellers at its collection of hotels.

In a tweet, GoHimachal stated that stranded tourists in Manali can seek shelter in their hotels, Beas Valley and Beas Residency. The organisation stated that there would be no expenses for the stay and that all essential assistance would be supplied. The tweet also listed the hotel names, addresses, and phone numbers for easy access.

Siddharth Bakaria, an environmentalist and activist affiliated with GoHimachal, said to MoneyControl that stranded tourists are allowed to stay at the hotels till the weather improves.Bakaria, who is now in Dalhousie, stated that some 70 travellers had already sought refuge at these hotels. Despite the fact that the absence of electricity has hampered connection with other hotels in Manali, Bakaria informed MoneyControl that more than 60 to 70 people are now staying at the approved hotels.

Regarding the amenities for strandedtourists, Bakaria claimed that they are given regular meals of high quality.

According to the Himachal Pradesh Emergency Operation Centre, the flood situation in Himachal Pradesh has resulted in the closure of 1,239 routes, including the Shimla-Kalka and Manali-Chandigarh national highways, due to continuous rainfall over the previous three days.
As a result, Himachal Roadways Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus services on 1,416 routes have been halted, with 679 vehicles detained en route.The flood situation has also caused supply shortages in other districts of the hill state, including Shimla and Manali.
The Chandigarh-Manali and Shimla-Kalka national roads have been closed due to landslides, road cave-ins, and floods.Furthermore, a large number of transformers have been damaged, resulting in power outages, and 1,418 water supply schemes have been damaged, disrupting water delivery in various regions, including the state capital Shimla.
Due to road bottlenecks caused by landslides, Manali town and surrounding regions were cut off for nearly a day. Mobile connectivity has also been significantly impacted throughout the affected areas.
