The Latvian national airline, airBaltic, has inaugurated its seasonal base in Gran Canaria, one of Spain’s Canary Islands. Throughout the winter, airBaltic will station two Airbus A220-300 aircraft at Gran Canaria airport (LPA) to operate a total of 10 direct routes.
Martin Gauss, President and CEO of airBaltic, expressed his satisfaction with the launch of the seasonal base in Gran Canaria. With two aircraft stationed there, airBaltic aims to connect the picturesque island with various destinations in Northern Europe. This marks the airline’s first seasonal base and its initial base located outside of the Baltics and Finland. Recognizing the robust and expanding demand for travel between Northern Europe and the Canary Islands during the winter months, airBaltic plans to enhance aircraft utilization.
The seasonal offerings complement airBaltic’s existing services to the Canary Islands, including direct flights to Tenerife from its main bases in Riga, Tallinn, Vilnius, and Tampere.
In addition to the previously launched direct flights between Riga and Gran Canaria, airBaltic is introducing nine new routes connecting the airport to various destinations in Northern Europe. These routes will be serviced by the Airbus A220-300 aircraft, known for its efficiency and passenger-friendly features such as wider seats, larger windows, increased cabin luggage space, and enhanced lavatories. These attributes contribute to better overall performance, fuel efficiency, and convenience for both passengers and staff.
With a network encompassing more than 100 routes from bases in Riga, Tallinn, Vilnius, and Tampere, airBaltic provides connectivity to a diverse range of destinations across Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, and the Caucasus region.
