In his Budget Speech for 2024-25, the Financial Secretary of the Hong Kong SAR Government unveiled several initiatives aimed at propelling the growth of the tourism and aviation sectors within Hong Kong. These initiatives also seek to bolster cooperation with other cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and advance the development of the intermodal logistics park.

Stanley Hui, CEO of Greater Bay Airlines (GBA), expressed his support for the Budget, foreseeing a further elevation of Hong Kong’s status as an international aviation hub. He emphasized the potential benefits stemming from the development of the country’s “Air Silk Road” and the imminent commissioning of Hong Kong International Airport’s Three-runway System by year-end. Hui believes that these measures will not only reinforce economic recovery but also positively impact various industries, including tourism and aviation, thereby benefiting Hong Kong’s overall economy.

Hui exudes confidence in the future of Hong Kong’s aviation industry, citing the Budget’s utilization of the region’s unique advantages, including strong support from the country and its integration into the national development framework while maintaining the “One Country, Two Systems” principle. As a Hong Kong-based airline, GBA presently serves numerous Asian destinations and plans to inaugurate flights to Singapore in April 2024. With a focus on fleet expansion, the airline intends to augment frequencies on existing routes and explore new services to medium and large-sized cities in Mainland China, such as Shanghai, Beijing, Xi’an, and Qingdao. This decision aligns with the recent expansion of the Individual Visit Scheme approved by the State Council.
