The Vice President attended the Rann Utsav, which is being held in the White Desert from October 26th to February 20th, 2023. “Mesmerized by the tranquility & grandeur of White Desert. Unforgettable experience,” said Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on his two-day visit to Gujarat.

The Rann Utsav is a Gujarat Tourism Department project. It was created in 2006 and launched by the then Gujarat Chief Minister PM Modi. It began as a three-day event, but due to its rising popularity, the festival has expanded to a 100-day celebration. The festival’s major goal is to bring a worldwide audience to Gujarat to boost tourism.

The yearly festival has a variety of activities such as folk dance and music performances, live craftsmen at work, displays of various handicrafts and village co-operatives, and so on. During the event, the Tourist Corporation of Gujarat organises tours that include transportation, lodging, food, and guided sightseeing. Every year, almost 8,000 tourists participate in the Festival.

Meanwhile, from the 7th to the 10th of February, the Rann of Kutch hosted the first Tourism Working Group meeting under India’s G20 Presidency. At the Tourism Working Group’s four-day conference, representatives discussed the scope of tourism in India.

The delegates after the sessions, visited the Harappan Site of Dholavira, a UNESCO World Heritage site and were also familiarized with the local Kutchi art and traditions. Also, during the stay at Dhordo Tent City, the delegates had an opportunity to attend a Yoga session at White Rann.
