Gurdaspur village bags best tourism village award 2023

For village Nawan Pind Sardaran, Punjab recently got the Best Tourism Village of India-2023 Award. This village is in Gurdaspur district. This award was given on World Tourism Day at the launch of ‘Global Travel for Life’ program organized by at Pragati Maidan in Delhi by the union ministry of tourism.

The village received the award for showcasing and safeguarding the cultural heritage and sustainable development of Punjab via tourism. For the competition, a total of 750 villages from almost 31 Indian states and UTs had applied for the Best Tourism Village Recognition 2023.


The Principal Secretary, Tourism Department, Rakhee Gupta Bhandari and Dr Himanshu Aggarwal who is the deputy commissioner, Gurdaspur, along with Satwant Sangha, a village representative, and Sheetal Behl, the project manager for the department of tourism got the awards from V Vidyavathi, the secretary,
ministry of tourism.


Bhandari said that the residents of the village had worked in close harmonization and leadership of tourism department of Punjab to protect their family havelis and encourage them as popular spots for rural tourism which at present drawing tourists from various corners of the country and abroad as well. The Kothi is one such popular havelis while the other is ‘Pipal Haveli’.
