The Global Wellness Institute (GWI), a leading nonprofit dedicated to research and education in the global wellness industry, has formed a partnership with Blueprint Global, an international leader in luxury real estate. This collaboration aims to spotlight and explore the distinctive wellness landscape of Canada. With this association, Canada, recognized as the world’s 8th largest wellness economy ($128 billion), is now featured on GWI’s Geography of Wellness, alongside Brazil, Indonesia, Japan, Singapore, Thailand, the UK, and the USA.

Susie Ellis, Chair and CEO of GWI, emphasized the significance of the Geography of Wellness, which offers a comprehensive understanding of how wellness businesses contribute to individual economies. The report provides country-specific data for nine wellness economy sectors, including spas, wellness tourism, workplace wellness, wellness real estate, physical activity, mental wellness, traditional and complementary medicine, and public health, prevention, and personalized medicine. By collaborating with in-country organizations, GWI’s researchers can unveil trends specific to Canada’s wellness economy.

The newly released Global Wellness Economy: Canada report, available for download on the GWI site, reveals that Canada has rebounded strongly since 2020, showcasing one of the most successful wellness economies globally. Canada’s wellness economy, ranking 8th globally, boasts numerous sectors within the top ten, including mental wellness (#3), workplace wellness (#6), public health, prevention & personalized medicine (#7), wellness real estate (#8), physical activity (#8), traditional and complementary medicine (#8), and healthy eating (#9).

Canada’s wellness culture, deeply rooted in nature and the balance of mind, body, and spirit, is enriched by Indigenous traditions and the country’s diverse cultural tapestry. The report highlights Canada’s emphasis on mindfulness, emerging wellness trends, and the integration of innovative R&D, technology, health sciences, and traditional medicine at world-class resorts, farm-to-table restaurants, nature parks, and recreational wellness venues.

Canada’s extensive coastlines, encompassing the Pacific, Atlantic, and Arctic Oceans, offer a wide range of wellness possibilities. Entrepreneurs and innovators in the country have developed a diverse wellness ecosystem, featuring national parks, hot springs, majestic mountains, and tranquil lakes. This ecosystem provides unique activities and experiences like Nordic-inspired thermal baths, Japanese-inspired forest bathing, and Indigenous healing ceremonies. Additionally, Canada has been at the forefront of “placemaking,” cultivating vibrant and inclusive environments that encourage social interaction and community engagement, aligning seamlessly with Blueprint Global’s emphasis on these aspects in their projects.

Jean-Pierre Miramont, CEO of Blueprint Global, expressed the importance of wellness in all its forms and its role in fostering longer, healthier, and more mindful lifestyles. Through collaboration with GWI, Blueprint Global aims to establish stronger connections with Canada’s wellness industry while contributing to the impactful work undertaken by the Global Wellness Institute.
