The latest report from the Airport Authority Hong Kong on sustainability provides details of events for the year ending March 2026 where the airport increased capacity and improved resilience and incorporated new technologies.
The report tracks progress under the airport authority’s Ascend sustainability strategy, which covers 24 strategic goals across four main pillars: Environmental Excellence, Operational Excellence, Thriving Economies and Societies, and Thriving People.
Together, the developments show how Hong Kong International Airport is preparing for higher passenger volumes while trying to make airport operations more efficient, resilient and environmentally responsible.
Sustainability remained a major focus during the 2025/26 financial year, with environmental planning being increasingly integrated into long-term airport operations.

One of the airport’s major achievements came through its Flood Resilience Studies, which received the highest Platinum award under the Airports Council International Asia-Pacific & Middle East Green Airports Recognition 2026.
The recognition reflects growing attention across the aviation industry to climate resilience. Airports are increasingly expected to prepare for extreme rainfall, flooding and other weather-related risks that can affect terminals, runways, passenger movements and supporting infrastructure.
Hong Kong International Airport also introduced a Nature-related Financial Disclosure Statement within its Sustainability Report for the first time.

Eight additional cameras were installed across the Three-runway System, expanding real-time monitoring capability.
