Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) is eyeing Muslim tourists from Indonesia to boost its tourism sector.

With a population of around 270 million, which includes over 40 percent of Southeast Asia’s population, Muslim tourists from Indonesia will continue to be an important tourism segment.

According to the HKTB, in 2023, Hong Kong welcomed more than 252,000 Indonesian tourists, marking a 56 percent recovery compared to pre-pandemic arrivals.

This positive momentum continued through February 2024, with arrivals reaching 101 percent compared to the same period before the pandemic.

“We are excited to continue enhancing tourists’ experiences in Hong Kong through Muslim-friendly initiatives, as well as to embark on strategic partnerships with our tourism industry partners to reach out to our Indonesian consumers.

Hong Kong is a unique destination, and we are committed to making every visit an unforgettable experience for our Indonesian guests,” said Liew Chian Jia, Regional Director of Southeast Asia at HKTB, on Wednesday.

HKTB plans to collaborate with partners in Hong Kong to educate stakeholders about the needs of Muslim tourists and enhance Muslim-friendly initiatives.

Additionally, HKTB will diversify its promotional materials and enrich its website content to attract more Muslim tourists to Hong Kong.

In reaching new audiences and boosting visitor numbers, HKTB emphasizes developing the Gen Z segment through platforms like TikTok.

Recent campaigns on TikTok include the ongoing TikTok Trip to Hong Kong and Throwback Campaign, featuring collaborations with Indonesian influencers such as Canny Claudya, Yuda Bustara, Lusia Angelin (Ladyguides), Tiffany Jolie, Ucita Pohan, and Marischka Prudence.

Furthermore, HKTB actively targets the Indonesian market through strategic partnerships with travel agencies, online travel agents, and airlines, crucial for tailoring customized experiences for Indonesian tourists.

Renowned for its diverse and captivating large-scale events, Hong Kong continues to enhance visitor experiences with new and revitalized events throughout the year.

Notable updates include the “A Symphony of Lights” at Victoria Harbour, alongside iconic music festivals like Clockenflap and Creamfields Hong Kong.

Hong Kong also offers an array of captivating cultural and arts activities year-round, from the vibrant International Chinese New Year Parade to the grand Christmas celebrations during Hong Kong Winterfest.

The latest addition to Hong Kong’s attractions is the World of Frozen, the world’s first and largest “Frozen”-themed ride at Hong Kong Disneyland.
