An online survey targeting foreign K-pop audiences, primarily in the United States, was conducted to measure K-pop’s influence on travel intentions and cultural consumption. The study explored how fans’ emotional attachment and involvement with K-pop music translated into a desire to visit South Korea, shop for Korean products, and experience its cuisine.
Interestingly, while the perceived character and visual performance value of K-pop were less impactful on Western tourists, dimensions such as imitation and attachment value significantly influenced audience involvement. The study highlighted how K-pop indirectly shapes tourists’ behavioral intentions by enhancing familiarity with Korea and fostering emotional connections to its culture.
