Furthermore tsunami warnings were not issued after the horrifying tremors. The earthquake had struck just south of Chignik Lake that is based at a distance of nearly 65 miles south west of Kodiak.

Last month a strong 7.9 magnitude earthquake had hit the Gulf of Alaska that had sent coastal inhabitants rushing for shelter to evacuation centres to hope for some secure shelter from a probable tsunami.

Witnesses reported that the quake could be experienced for about a minute.

Large earthquakes are not very uncommon in Alaska that is active seismically. It is likely to be struck by many more earthquakes this year.

From Indonesia to Japan, Hawaii and Alaska the entire region is based in what is known as the Pacific Ring of Fire and is extremely volatile due to the presence of active volcanoes, earthquake zones and tectonic plates.

A majority of the world’s earthquakes are known to take place in this region.

This is the latest natural disaster to rock the ‘Ring of Fire’ region and it triggered fears of ‘The Big One’ is likely to strike soon.
