Today, the Arne Sorenson Social Impact Leadership Award recipient was revealed jointly by The American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA), the AHLA Foundation, and The BHN Group/Northstar Travel Group. The esteemed honor will be bestowed upon Mark Hoplamazian, President and Chief Executive Officer of Hyatt. The award ceremony is scheduled to take place during the AHLA Foundation’s Night of a Thousand Stars fundraising gala on Sunday, January 21, and also at the 23rd annual Americas Lodging Investment Summit (ALIS) on Tuesday, January 23.
Chip Rogers, President & CEO of AHLA, expressed admiration for Hoplamazian’s exceptional leadership and empathetic approach during his tenure at Hyatt. He emphasized that Mark’s commitment extends beyond corporate success, highlighting the positive impact he has made on the community through various initiatives. The Arne Sorenson Social Impact Leadership Award serves to recognize leaders like Hoplamazian whose contributions go beyond business achievements.
Jeff Higley, President of The BHN Group, praised Hoplamazian’s commitment to addressing social issues and his embodiment of the hotel industry’s sense of community. He asserted that Mark’s dedication to a diverse array of causes aligns perfectly with the values represented by the Arne Sorenson Social Impact Award, making him the ideal recipient for this prestigious honor in 2024.
Mark Hoplamazian assumed the role of President and CEO of Hyatt in 2006 after 17 years with The Pritzker Organization. Throughout his leadership at Hyatt, he has played a pivotal role in driving transformative growth while prioritizing environmental and social impact initiatives. Some notable initiatives include World of Care, Change Starts Here, RiseHY, and his involvement in launching AHLA’s No Room for Trafficking Survivors Fund.
The Arne Sorenson Social Impact Leadership Award, introduced in 2022 in memory of Arne Sorenson, the former president & CEO of Marriott International, is presented annually to a senior-level executive in the lodging industry who demonstrates a commitment to driving positive change through robust leadership and community engagement.
