The International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney), under the management of ASM Global, is taking a significant stride towards recognizing and supporting Australia’s First Nations Peoples with the launch of its 2024 First Nations Employment Program. This program, now in its third iteration since the venue’s opening, demonstrates ICC Sydney’s unwavering dedication to fostering meaningful inclusion of the First Nations community in all aspects of its operations and talent acquisition process.
To be eligible for the program, individuals must identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, reside in Sydney, be 18 years or older, and be available to start in February 2024. Prospective candidates are encouraged to submit their applications and CVs online, with successful applicants moving forward to interview stages.
Geoff Donaghy, CEO of ICC Sydney and Group Director of Convention Centres at ASM Global (APAC), affirmed the program’s significance, stating, “Through the third iteration of ICC Sydney’s First Nations Employment Program, we reaffirm our commitment to Reconciliation, collaboration, and partnership with Australia’s vibrant First Nations Peoples, and greater inclusion within our workforce.”
Mr. Donaghy further emphasized the importance of ICC Sydney’s Reconciliation Action Plan, which guides the organization towards fostering positive relationships and promoting opportunities and career pathways for First Nations Peoples as an integral part of its organizational fabric.
As an employer of choice, ICC Sydney has designed this program to facilitate training and development leading to employment opportunities for Sydney’s First Nations community. This initiative is carried out in an environment where cultural understanding is deeply embedded, and team members are valued, included, and supported.
“At ICC Sydney, we are proud to offer careers – not simply jobs, and with the reinvigoration of our First Nations Employment Program, we hope to create a clear avenue for our First Nations community to experience working in Australia’s leading convention, exhibition, and entertainment venue,” Mr. Donaghy added. Program participants will gain exposure to various departments over nine months, enabling them to explore and discover their passions within the hospitality and events industry. They also have the prospect of earning a nationally recognized certification upon successful completion.
