Embrace 2024’s travel trends: Event tourism shines with festivals, theme parks, and electrifying concerts on the global stage!

Looking ahead to 2024, the travel landscape is increasingly shaped by the rising trend of event-based tourism. This shift has seen a remarkable growth in trips centered around festivals and renowned amusement parks.

Particularly noteworthy is the surge in popularity of theme parks. In 2023, these destinations saw a remarkable 65% increase in reservations compared to 2019, as per Trip.com‘s data. The year’s top ten theme parks worldwide included:

  1. Disneyland in Hong Kong
  2. Universal Studios in Japan
  3. Ocean Park in Hong Kong
  4. Universal Studios in Singapore
  5. Disneyland in Tokyo
  6. DisneySea in Tokyo
  7. Everland in Korea
  8. Universal Studios in Hollywood
  9. LEGOLAND in Malaysia
  10. Adventure Cove Waterpark

Furthermore, theme parks accounted for half of the top ten global attractions in 2023, sharing the spotlight with Singapore Zoo, Gardens by the Bay, The Peak, S.E.A Aquarium, and Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan.

Live entertainment, such as concerts and music festivals, have also captivated audiences globally. Trip.com’s first foray into concert booking in 2023 yielded promising results. The “event+ticket” category quickly became a top choice on the platform. High-profile concerts, like Jay Chou’s Carnival World Tour and Wang Leehom’s ONE concert, both in Bangkok, topped the list of most popular events.

The impact of these events on tourism was significant. For instance, following the announcement of Jay Chou’s Carnival World Tour in Bangkok, there was a 175% increase in searches for hotels in the city during September 8-14 compared to the previous week. Air ticket inquiries to Bangkok also rose by 213%. Hotel bookings in Bangkok on December 9 surged by 129%, and flight bookings from China increased by 118%.

The ongoing popularity of concerts featuring international artists is set to make 2024 an exhilarating year rich with diverse cultural experiences.

The top five concerts and music festivals of 2023 were:

  1. Jay Chou’s Carnival World Tour in Bangkok
  2. Wang Leehom’s ONE concert in Bangkok
  3. Rolling Loud in Pattaya
  4. Jacky Cheung’s performance in Macau
  5. JJ Lin’s concert in Hong Kong
