In a ground-breaking move, IHG Hotels & Resorts (IHG) and Asset World Corp. Public Company Limited (AWC) announced the creation of two magnificent hotels in Chiang Rai, Thailand. The InterContinental Chiang Rai Golden Triangle Resort and the Kimpton Chiang Rai Golden Triangle, both slated to debut in 2025, will bring the InterContinental and Kimpton brands to the renowned Golden Triangle area.

This strategic expansion not only marks IHG’s debut in the culturally rich and attractive Golden Triangle but also cements the company’s long-standing partnership with AWC. The InterContinental Chiang Rai Golden Triangle Resort will have 68 one- and two-bedroom pool and plunge pool villas, while the Kimpton Chiang Rai Golden Triangle will have 68 suites and a slew of amenities.

Chiang Rai, famed for its historical value and immersion in Lanna culture, has formed the backdrop for these luxury resorts. The resorts are located one hour from Mae Fah Luang – Chiang Rai International Airport and offer riverfront views of the Mekong River, Laos, and Myanmar.

IHG Hotels & Resorts Managing Director, South East Asia and Korea, Rajit Sukumaran, expressed optimism about growing their foothold in northern Thailand, stating, “This signing is another milestone in IHG’s and AWC’s more than 10-year relationship and will provide travelers the opportunity to explore more of northern Thailand.”

The CEO and President of AWC, Mrs. WallapaTraisorat, highlighted Chiang Rai’s distinctive offerings. Thanks to this cooperation with IHG, many local and international travelers will be considering visiting Thailand’s most northern province. It is exactly what we want to do—turn Chiang Rai into an opulent ecotourism resort.”

The resorts offer eco-friendly travel options, and unique riverbank settings provide lifestyle cruise experiences that link Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar. Indulge in organic dining experiences, participate in Lanna wellness activities, and see hill tribes and coffee plantations—all while emphasizing wellness.

With plans to increase its estate size within the next three to five years, these developments demonstrate IHG’s dedication to expansion in Thailand. IHG and AWC want to add long-term value and improve the local people and society as Chiang Rai becomes a popular tourist destination worldwide.
