Curtin University Malaysia proudly unveiled Volume 2, Issue 1, of the International Journal of Business Events and Legacies (IJBEL) during a historic event at the 62nd ICCA Congress. This carefully selected edition, which was given to ICCA President Marta Gomes, is evidence of Curtin University Malaysia’s dedication to promoting dialogue on global approaches that influence the current business event scene. Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Sarawak, graced the launch ceremony as a representative of the Strategic Advisory Tripartite.

The special edition delves deeply into how industry leaders—from meeting planners to experts—strategize corporate events to have a beneficial impact on the current business environment, in line with the Congress theme of legacy and sustainability. The emphasis encompasses both scholarly and non-scholarly viewpoints, providing a thorough understanding of the potential and difficulties facing legacy and sustainability today.

Citing Sarawak as an example of such leadership, the Honourable Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah emphasized the significance of governments realizing the transformative power of meetings and pushed for a commitment to legacy impact. He stressed being receptive to international cooperation in order to promote constructive transformation within the sector.

Eight papers in Volume 2, Issue 1, cover important subjects related to the industry, such as recommendations on greenwashing in association events, global destination reports, defining legacies, and sustainability in convention bureaus. Meeting locations were advised to reconsider their strategy and use legacy impact as a disruptor for upcoming events Senthil Gopinath, CEO of ICCA and Chairman of the IJBEL Advisory Board. To promote constructive social change, Gopinath underlined the need for a group effort.

As a platform for varied insights from Asia to North America, IJBEL has 48 collaborators and 6 strategic partners worldwide. Inviting organizations to participate as strategic partners in promoting ongoing relevant discourse, Gopinath urged scholars and practitioners to contribute to upcoming topics.
