In the first three months of 2023, international tourism in Ireland has dropped by more than a quarter, compared to the figures existed pre pandemic.

However, it’s expected that a so-called ‘Biden bounce’ has a chance to enhance an already strong American tourism market.

The data published by the Irish Tourism Industry Confederation has emphasized that as 1.7m visitors between January and March visited the country, there was still a striking decline from 2019 figures.

Eoghan O’Mara Walsh, Chief executive of the ITIC, informed Morning Ireland on RTÉ Radio One that figures pinpoint the fact that for the first quarter of 2023, there were around 1.7 million visitors from abroad which is 16pc down on pre-pandemic.

Eoghan added that they never thought to get back to revival entirely for Irish tourism until about 2025 2026. Therefore, the revival is in train but still some time away.

The first quarter is worth 20pc always of the annual tourism here. The big months are the months that are really coming up.

The ITIC explained that the American tourism and mainland Europe market of tourism to Ireland is getting better quietly however; the British market is “soft” because of the weaker financial situation over the water.

The dollar remains powerful and therefore after the pandemic, tourists from America are making the most of travel. In the US, Ireland continues to do well receive according to the ITIC.

Tourism bodies are hopeful US President Joe Biden’s visit to Ireland will aid in attracting more Americans to the island.
