In Mumbai, curbs on tourist spots lifted

A day after the government of Maharashtra issued directives that emphasize easing of COVID restrictions in Mumbai, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation on Tuesday has permitted beaches, gardens, parks and all tourist spots to remain open.


Also, the BMC has ordered that on movement during night hours of 11pm to 5am, there shall be no restrictions from now on. The order shall remain in force till February 28.


I S Chahal, BMC commissioner, explained that in the first week of January, the positivity rate of Covid cases was at 28.9 percent and now it has dropped to 1.5 per cent on Tuesday.


To gardens, recreational grounds, playgrounds and parks, the entry for morning/evening walkers was allowed from 5am to 9am and from 5pm to 8pm. BMC in its detailed order ahs also allowed amusement/ theme parks, swimming pools, water-park to remain operational with 50 per cent capacity.


From now on, the order also said that weddings can also have guests up to 25 per cent of the capacity of the ground and banquet hall or 200, whichever is lower.


With 50 per cent capacity, restaurants, theatres, natyagrihas are also allowed to stay open. However, the civic body has mentioned that there shall be firm adherence to Covid-appropriate behaviour.
