In outbound tourism, Americans & Germans spent the maximum

In the last few years, the tourism industry has seen a trend that’s constantly changing in terms of expenditure as in 21019, spending reached a record high before it dropped in 2020/2021 due to the pandemic situation.


As per the data from the UNTWO, Chinese nationals occupied the first position in 2018 for having the highest tourism expenditure with roughly €262 billion spent in this country. It was later followed by Americans with almost €119 billion and German nationals with €91 million, as per the SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.


For 2018, the list of countries with the highest expenditure in outbound tourism figures when the world was expected to observe record highs in tourism as well as an outlay that were made in this sector, is additionally concluded with the UK and the United Arab Emirates, with an expenses level of €80 and 66 billion.


In 2018, France, Australia and South Korea are the countries with a higher expenditure level and spending between €40 and €33 billion. Also, Canada and Russia had high expenditure levels that totaled €32 billion.


The expenditure levels peaked at €154 billion by the end of 2019 for the Chinese nationals. This was followed by €49 billion from the US and €46 billion from Germany.
