In a groundbreaking revelation, the civil aviation ministry announces potential annual savings of Rs 1,000 crore for airlines through the implementation of flexible airspace usage. This strategic move not only reduces flight time but also contributes to a substantial decrease in fuel consumption and carbon emissions.
The civil aviation ministry’s recent sector review highlighted the immense impact of flexible airspace usage on the aviation landscape. By optimizing flight paths and embracing the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, the Indian Air Force has released 30% of the national airspace, leading to 129 conditional routes for civilian use. The result? A paradigm shift in air travel efficiency, with potential savings estimated at Rs 1,000 crore annually.
To combat airport congestion, the ministry has undertaken infrastructural reforms, creating additional space at various airports by restructuring terminal facilities. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) issued a record-breaking 1,562 commercial pilot licenses this year, underscoring the industry’s resilience and growth. Simultaneously, domestic air passenger traffic witnessed a significant surge, reaching 7.4% above pre-Covid averages on November 19.
