G. Kishan Reddy, Union Minister for Culture, Tourism, and DoNER, stated in Coimbatore on Tuesday that the Union government would soon produce a complete, integrated “New Tourism Policy” that will address different difficulties confronting the tourism sector, reports The Hindu.
He told members of the Coimbatore Travel Agents’ Association that the government was in negotiations with the United Nations World Tourism Organisation about establishing a South Asia headquarters in New Delhi. It has developed the “Adopt a Heritage” programme, which allows the business sector to maintain national monuments using Corporate Social Responsibility funds.
The Indian Institute of Travel and Tourism Management offers an “Incredible India Tourist Facilitators” certification course through the Ministry that gives online training to anyone who desire to guide and help visitors and tourists. The National Council of Hotel Management and Catering Technology has inked an agreement with Jawaharlal University to accept the Council’s undergraduate and postgraduate hospitality studies beginning in the academic year 2023-2024.
The travel agents in attendance advocated for steps to encourage medical and spiritual tourism in Coimbatore, as well as improved air and rail connectivity, the need for skilled guides, and the marketing of the Coimbatore brand. The Minister promised them that efforts will be taken to satisfy their demands.
