Samarkand, Khiva, Bukhara and Tashkent are hosting the International Week of Pilgrimage Tourism from 1 to 3 November this year. Tourism Week is organized due to the enterprise of the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Heritage in association with a number of organizations.
The aim of this international week is to set free the prospective of pilgrimage tourism in Uzbekistan, and make it one of the most important centers of world civilization, acquire acknowledgment from the world community and global organizations, and also expand pilgrimage tourism services and intensify tourism trades.
Pilgrimage tourism in Uzbekistan has witnessed important development prospective due to its ancient cities of Bukhara and Samarkand, where the famous shrines of the Islamic world are located. Tourism is turning to be one of the most important and vigorously developing sectors of Uzbekistan’s economy. Due to the growth of tourism, especially pilgrimage, Uzbekistan has the possibility to attract large numbers of tourists fascinated toward religious tourism.
In Samarkand, the official opening of the Week of Pilgrimage Tourism happened at the Palace of Youth. The solemn ceremony was inaugurated by the Deputy Prime Minister, the Minister of Tourism and Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan Aziz Abdukhakimov.
