In earlier this month, approximately 2 million households in the Netherlands were treated to captivating scenes of Cork and Kerry as the final episodes of the renowned reality TV series “Het Perfecte Plaatje” (“The Perfect Picture”) aired on RTL 4, a Dutch TV channel.

The show features a photography competition among ten Dutch celebrities passionate about photography. Each episode presents two distinct challenges, prompting contestants to vie for the finest photographic compositions through their lenses.

Season eight, airing weekly since October, culminated in the last two episodes shot in Cork and Kerry on December 6th and 13th. In the penultimate episode, the three celebrity finalists—YouTuber Quinty Misiedjan, and actors Niek Roozen and Loes Haverkort—were tasked, amidst the stunning backdrop of Blarney Castle, with photographing the Dragon of Shandon parade and capturing a documentary-style image in Cobh.

The final episode saw Niek Roozen and Loes Haverkort receiving their directives at Killarney’s Muckross House. Viewers witnessed the contestants capturing breathtaking shots at scenic spots such as Torc Waterfall, Muckross Abbey, the Gap of Dunloe, and Killarney National Park, ultimately leading to Loes Haverkort’s triumph as the competition winner at Saint Fin Barre’s Cathedral in Cork.

Tourism Ireland supported the filming of these two Ireland episodes of “Het Perfecte Plaatje.”

Karen van der Horst, Manager for Northern Europe at Tourism Ireland, expressed, “Het Perfecte Plaatje” holds significant popularity in the Netherlands. Thus, it presented an engaging and unique opportunity to exhibit Cork and Kerry’s splendor, showcasing their myriad attractions to over 2 million Dutch viewers. Television and film greatly influence potential travelers, and Tourism Ireland frequently collaborates with global TV and production entities to facilitate travel and lifestyle shows and films in Ireland. This approach effectively generates positive exposure for the island of Ireland.”

Such publicity and broadcasts form a pivotal part of Tourism Ireland‘s efforts to entice travelers in the Netherlands and globally, encouraging them to include Ireland in their holiday plans.
