The commencement of the fourth Istanbul Digital Art Festival (IDAF) was marked by an inaugural event in Milan, Italy, on Tuesday, setting the stage for the main event scheduled to take place in Istanbul from May 2. This year’s theme, “Searching Connection,” aims to delve into the intricate relationship between the past and the future, using art and technology as a bridge.

The Milan preview, hosted at the Meet Digital Culture Center, saw the participation of distinguished government officials such as Mehmet Ozoktem, the Consul General of Türkiye; Nigar Qurbanli, Azerbaijan’s Cultural Attache; and Ahmet Erkan Cetinkayis, Türkiye’s Trade Attache. The event also attracted a wide array of artists and notable personalities from the digital art community.

Organized with the support of Türkiye’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism and managed by the advertising agency Mezo Digital, the festival proudly presented the works of 40 artists. The festival benefits from the patronage of Istanbul-based Pasha Bank as its main sponsor and the Anadolu Agency as its global communication partner, highlighting its significant cultural and international outreach.

Nabat Garakhanova, the director of IDAF, shared her enthusiasm about hosting Türkiye’s unique international digital art festival during the Milan event. The festival in Istanbul, spanning from May 2 to May 5, is anticipated to be a convergence point for artists who are set to explore and exhibit the unifying potentials of the past and future through their creative works.

The festival is not just an exhibition of digital art; it is designed to be an immersive experience that includes workshops targeted at children and youth, engaging panel discussions, and dynamic visual and audio performances, enriching the cultural landscape of Istanbul.

The IDAF is expected to have a positive impact on tourism in Istanbul by attracting visitors eager to experience the innovative blend of art and technology. Through its diverse program, the festival aims to foster cultural exchange, highlight the evolving landscape of digital art, and contribute to the city’s reputation as a vibrant cultural hub. The involvement of international artists and officials underscores the festival’s role in promoting Istanbul as a destination for cultural tourism, drawing art enthusiasts, digital creators, and tourists from around the globe to explore the city’s rich heritage and contemporary artistic expressions.
