The Minister of Tourism, Fatima Al Sairafi, communicated to the Members of Parliament (MPs) that Bahrain’s tourism initiatives are being consistently updated to achieve the ambitious goals set for 2026. This was revealed during her response to inquiries from MP Hassan Ibrahim regarding the scope and status of various tourism projects and programs.

Key Projects Underway: A significant development highlighted was the Bahrain Bay Beach project, with an investment of BD4.7 million, which is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2024. Spanning 173,000 square meters and featuring a 600-meter public beachfront, this project is designed to enrich the local and international visitor experience. Additionally, the site includes four subplots dedicated to coral clubs and various maritime activities, reflecting a robust enhancement in the marine leisure sector.

Galali Seafront and Sea Taxi Initiatives: Furthermore, the expansive BD20 million Galali Seafront Project is set to transform 100,000 square meters into a vibrant hub for water sports, clubs, pitches, shops, alongside dynamic food truck and café areas. Moreover, the anticipated operational launch of the sea taxi service within the year is poised to add a unique transport option, enhancing accessibility and enjoyment of Bahrain’s waterfront attractions.

Cultural and Market Expansion Efforts: Ms. Al Sairafi also highlighted a collaborative effort between the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) and the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (Baca) aimed at promoting historic sites and traditional handicrafts. Additionally, there is ongoing work with the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture to promote the Bahraini Farmers Market. Efforts are also underway to augment Bahrain’s presence in the Saudi Arabian market and attract more global visitors.

Challenges and Compliance in the Tourism Sector: The Tourism Minister reported an increase in violations at tourist facilities, with 150 instances recorded last year, marking a slight increase from the previous year. This response was part of her dialogue with MP Hassan Bukhammas, highlighting ongoing compliance and regulatory challenges within the sector.

Housing Developments Addressed: Parallel discussions on housing, addressed by the Minister of Housing and Urban Planning, Amna Al Romaihi, focused on addressing numerous housing requests and developing new housing schemes, further underscoring the comprehensive development efforts across various sectors in Bahrain.
