ITA Airways recently received the esteemed accolade of “Fastest Growing Airline in Western Europe” at the Airline Marketing Workshop, a significant event hosted by the Athens International Airport. This workshop, a critical gathering for aviation industry leaders, delves into the sector’s challenges and advancements. Annually, airlines demonstrating outstanding performance over the past year are recognized in various categories during this event, attended by Athens International Airport Executives, ACI Europe, other vital partners, Greek Authorities, airline industry members, and noted aviation experts.

For its impressive achievements in 2023, surpassing the growth of its counterparts in Western Europe, ITA Airways was honored with this title. The airline’s Athens team graciously accepted the award in a ceremony in the Greek capital.

“We are proud to receive this recognition, which is an inspiration to do even better. In over two years, ITA Airways has achieved business results that in some cases exceed forecasts. We ended 2023 with an operational breakeven, one year ahead of what was envisaged in the Business Plan” – said Emiliana Limosani, Chief Commercial Officer ITA Airways and CEO Volare. “Last year, we improved our performance in terms of passengers carried by 50%. In particular, the intercontinental segment doubled the number of passengers and reached EBIT already in 2023, after just one and a half years of full operations. This important achievement testifies to the great work done so far and pushes us towards more ambitious challenges in our mission of making ITA Airways become the benchmark in guaranteeing Italy quality connectivity both with international and domestic destinations”.

Looking ahead to summer 2024, ITA Airways plans to enhance its service from Athens to Rome Fiumicino, offering up to four daily flights and introducing 11 seasonal routes to popular Mediterranean tourist destinations, such as Greece, Spain, Croatia, and the Italian islands. The airline will serve 57 destinations, including 16 domestic, 26 international, and 15 intercontinental routes.

ITA Airways is set to expand its long- and medium-haul services this year, with new direct flights from its Rome Fiumicino hub to North America, Africa, and the Middle East. This expansion includes inaugural flights to Chicago, Toronto, Riyadh, Accra, Kuwait City, Dakar, and Jeddah, complementing existing long-haul services to major cities worldwide.
