Jet2.com and Jet2holidays have proudly been announced as supporters of National Apprenticeship Week 2024, scheduled to take place from the 5th to the 11th of February 2024.

As the premier leisure airline and the United Kingdom’s largest tour operator, they are set to demonstrate their commitment to the 17th annual National Apprenticeship Week through a week-long array of activities. These include participation in the Leeds Apprenticeship Recruitment Fair, engaging in tree planting activities with their charity partner, Trees for Cities, contributing ideas to support the ‘Jet2 Journey to Net Zero’ and Sustainability strategy, hosting a lunch and learn session on money management by Barclays Digital Eagles, and motivating apprentices to return to their educational institutions to deliver career talks.

Additionally, the successful candidates of Jet2holidays’ recently introduced “Appoint an Apprentice” initiative will have the opportunity to visit the company’s commercial offices in Leeds. Launched in November, this initiative involved the company providing apprenticeship training funding for all apprentices through the Levy Share scheme and allocating up to £5,000 to cover the salaries of new apprentices working at independent travel agency partners in England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. This initiative aims to nurture emerging talent within the travel industry.

Recognizing the importance of cultivating the next generation of talent, Jet2.com and Jet2holidays have a continually expanding nationwide apprenticeship program, positioning them as ideal participants in the National Apprenticeship Week 2024 Supporters Club. In addition to offering apprentice entry roles, the companies provide a range of apprenticeship opportunities for existing colleagues seeking career progression and skill development. The planned activities throughout National Apprenticeship Week aim to raise awareness of these opportunities.

With apprenticeship roles spanning from Level 2 to Level 7, catering to entry-level positions through to senior leadership roles, Jet2.com and Jet2holidays are dedicated to investing in their workforce and facilitating career development. This commitment ensures the employment of a highly motivated team equipped with the necessary skills to support ongoing growth and success.

Enrolling in an apprenticeship with Jet2.com and Jet2holidays not only provides practical work experience and essential skills but also offers the opportunity to earn a wage while pursuing professional qualifications. Presently, the companies employ over 150 apprentices across various departments, including Finance, Engineering, HR, IT, Marketing, Operations Control, Health & Safety, Ground Operations, Contact Centre, and Procurement. These apprentices are actively training for qualifications with the aim of transitioning into permanent roles or supporting their development within Jet2.

In October, Jet2.com and Jet2holidays celebrated the graduation of 33 apprentices from their apprenticeship scheme during their second annual apprenticeship graduation ceremony. Graduates from disciplines such as Engineering, Finance, Ground Operations, IT, Marketing, and Operations Control have successfully secured permanent positions with the airline and tour operator, with many experiencing promotions during their apprenticeships.

National Apprenticeship Week serves as an annual celebration uniting businesses and apprentices nationwide to highlight the positive impact apprenticeships have on individuals, businesses, and the broader economy. The theme for 2024, “Skills for Life,” aligns with Jet2.com and Jet2holidays’ advocacy for apprenticeships at all ages, fostering diversity in their workforce by employing apprentices from various educational and career backgrounds.

Miriam D’souli, HR Director at Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, said: “Our apprentices are integral to our ongoing business success and growth, so we are delighted to be involved with the Supporters Club for National Apprenticeship Week 2024. With the significant recruitment of even more apprentices planned for next year as well as the opportunities available to existing colleagues, the future of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays looks very bright with the array of talent progressing through the companies. The success of our award-winning business is due to our dedicated colleagues, and we are motivated to continue recruiting the best team the industry has to offer. As our apprenticeship programme plays a key role in our development, we look forward to continuously welcoming even more apprentices and nurturing existing talent, to ensure we continue to be industry leaders.”
