The two big travel firms, Jet2 (JET2.L) and TUI, have decided to postpone flights and vacations to Rhodes in reaction to a continuing wildfire on the Greek island. Separate announcements were issued by the firms announcing the cancellations and describing their measures to assist impacted clients.

Jet2 said on Twitter that all flights and vacations set to depart for Rhodes on Sunday had been cancelled, totaling five flights. Customers were promised, however, that the five planes would continue to travel to Rhodes, although without passengers. This precaution was taken to ensure that clients returned to the UK safely on their originally planned flights.

Similarly, TUI addressed the problem on its website, noting that all outward flights to Rhodes have been postponed until Tuesday, July 25, 2023. Customers who were already in Rhodes were permitted to return home on their previously scheduled flights, according to the airline.

The decision to cancel the flights and vacations was taken in light of the current wildfire on the island, which has created difficult conditions. Both firms expressed their commitment to protecting their customers’ safety and well-being and took necessary procedures to properly manage the issue.

This approach by Jet2 and TUI emphasises their commitment to prioritise the wellbeing of its travellers amid unforeseen occurrences and demonstrates the travel industry’s collective efforts to solve such situations.
