PM Modi begins a two-day visit to Assam, set to launch projects worth ₹18,000 cr, including a safari at Kaziranga & a statue inauguration in Jorhat.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is slated to kick off a significant two-day expedition to Assam today, embarking on a journey that underscores the importance of regional development and tourism, including highlights such as Kaziranga National Park. This visit, rich in ceremonial inaugurations and foundational stone-laying for projects totaling an impressive 18,000 crore Indian rupees in Jorhat, promises to be a momentous occasion.

The Prime Minister’s itinerary begins with his arrival at Tezpur Airport in the Sonitpur district around 4 pm, from where he will venture directly to the Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve. This UNESCO World Heritage site is not only a jewel in Assam’s crown but also a pivotal element of India’s eco-tourism and conservation efforts, attracting travelers from around the globe who are keen to experience its unique biodiversity.

Modi’s overnight stay at the Assam Police Guest House within the Kohora Range offers a nod to Kaziranga’s critical role in Assam tourism, serving as a symbolic gesture towards the government’s commitment to preserving India’s natural heritage. An early morning safari at Kaziranga awaits the Prime Minister, offering him firsthand insight into the park’s flora and fauna, before he heads to Arunachal Pradesh for further engagements.

Upon returning to Jorhat by approximately 1:30 pm, the Prime Minister is set to unveil an 84-foot statue of the legendary Ahom commander Lachit Borphukan at Hollonga Pathar, adding another layer to Assam’s rich historical and cultural tourism tapestry.

The event at Meleng Meteli Pothar in Jorhat will see Modi virtually inaugurating and laying the foundation stones for several pivotal projects. These include key health infrastructure like the Tinsukia Medical College and Hospital and a Child Care Unit at the B. Baruah Cancer Institute in Guwahati, alongside infrastructure enhancements such as the Barauni to Guwahati natural gas pipeline and crude oil pumping stations by Oil India Limited.

Furthermore, the expansion projects for Guwahati and Digboi refineries, including the establishment of IOCL’s Bethkuchi Terminal in Guwahati, will be initiated. The doubling of railway lines from Dhupdhara to Chaygaon and New Bongaigaon to Sarbhog also underscores the government’s push for improved connectivity and infrastructure within Assam, boosting both travel and tourism prospects.

In a grand finale to his visit, Prime Minister Modi will perform a virtual ‘Griha Pravesh’ ceremony for over 550,000 homes constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, marking a significant step towards enhancing living standards for many. This initiative not only supports residential security but also indirectly promotes the growth of regional travel and tourism by improving local infrastructure and amenities.

Through this visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi not only aims to advance development and infrastructure in Assam but also to spotlight the state’s tourism potential, particularly through the prism of Kaziranga’s natural beauty and historical significance. This expedition is set to reaffirm the symbiotic relationship between conservation, culture, and development in promoting Assam as a premier travel destination.
