Taiwan’s STARLUX European expansion has entered a new phase as the airline uses GLSHK’s EzyCustoms platform on its first European route between Taipei and Prague. The service, launched on 1 August 2026, links an Asian aviation hub with Central Europe while placing digital cargo compliance at the centre of the operation. EzyCustoms supports advance safety filings required under the European Union’s Import Control System 2, helping the carrier manage customs data before loading and arrival. The development matters because passenger growth, freight, semiconductor ties and border controls increasingly depend on accurate, secure and timely digital information flows.
STARLUX Airlines has opened its first scheduled European passenger route while extending the customs technology underpinning its international cargo operations. The combination gives the Taipei-based carrier a physical gateway into Central Europe and a digital mechanism for handling the European Union’s demanding advance cargo information rules.
The direct Taipei–Prague service began on 1 August 2026. Prague Airport confirmed that it is star luxās first regular European destination. The route initially operates three times each week, with four weekly services planned from October.
GLSHK announced on 13 August that STARLUX is using its EzyCustoms platform to support safety and security data processing for the route. The system is designed to help carriers manage advance cargo information, validation and regulatory filings across customs jurisdictions.

This is important because a new international route is not simply a passenger operation. Long-haul aircraft also carry freight in their lower holds. That cargo can improve route economics, serve time-sensitive supply chains and connect exporters with distant markets.
However, cargo entering or transiting through the EU is subject to advance security rules. Operators must provide complete and accurate shipment information within prescribed timelines. Weak data can lead to queries, intervention, loading restrictions or delays.
EzyCustoms gives STARLUX a technology layer through which those requirements can be managed. It does not replace European customs authorities or guarantee that cargo will be accepted. Customs agencies retain responsibility for risk assessment, control instructions and final decisions.
The opening of Prague represents a major change in star luxās network geography. Before the launch, the airline had developed services across Asia and North America. Europe had remained the missing major region in its long-haul passenger network.
According to Prague Airport’s official route announcement, STARLUX selected Prague for its first European service after extensive preparations. The airport projected that more than 95,000 passengers could use the route in both directions during its first year.
The route began with three weekly frequencies. Flights from Prague were scheduled for Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, with an additional Monday departure expected from October. That planned increase would bring the route to four weekly services.
STARLUX initially deployed an Airbus A350-900. The aircraft configuration announced by Prague Airport included First Class, Business Class, Premium Economy and Economy, with 306 passenger seats.
The airport’s inauguration update subsequently said that the larger Airbus A350-1000 would replace the A350-900 from 1 September. The A350-1000 was listed with 350 seats across four classes. This change, if maintained as scheduled, would expand passenger capacity and available lower-deck cargo space.
The route gives Prague a new direct link with Taipei and offers connecting possibilities through star luxās Asian network. Prague Airport identified cities including Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Tokyo, Singapore, Osaka and Hong Kong as examples of potential onward connections.
Prague offers STARLUX a strategic position in Central Europe. It combines tourism demand, business activity, international manufacturing links and access to neighbouring European markets.
The destination also gives the carrier an alternative to entering Europe through one of its largest and most congested hubs. A new entrant at a major gateway may face intense competition for slots, passengers, freight contracts and airport resources. Prague provides a significant capital-city market while supporting wider regional access.
Prague Airport handled a record 17,750,528 passengers in 2025, according to its official historical traffic record. That was around 1.4 million more passengers than in 2024. Eighty-four airlines served 194 destinations during the year, and 19 new routes were launched.
Those figures show that STARLUX is entering an airport with an expanding international network. They do not guarantee the performance of the Taipei route, but they demonstrate the scale and recovering strength of the gateway.
Prague Airport has also identified long-haul development as an important part of its network strategy. In its 2026 summer schedule, the airport expected services to 183 destinations, 15 more than a year earlier, with 77 airlines and a six per cent annual increase in available seats.
The Taipei link therefore fits into a wider push to increase Prague’s direct intercontinental connectivity. It also strengthens the airport’s position as a transfer point for passengers and goods moving between Central Europe and Asia.
GLSHK states that its technology partnership with STARLUX began in 2019, before the airline started commercial passenger operations in 2020. Its official records identify EzyCargo as star luxās exclusive cargo booking gateway from that year.
Under the relationship, STARLUX uses EzyCargo for electronic air waybill processing and EzyCustoms for advance customs and safety information. GLSHK says the platforms support the carrier’s established Asian and international network.
The extension to Prague is therefore not presented as a completely new technology deployment. It is an expansion of an existing digital cargo arrangement into a new customs jurisdiction.
That distinction matters. Airlines opening an international route must connect multiple operational systems. These can include reservations, departure control, cargo booking, air waybill data, ground handling, customs messaging, security screening and shipment-status services.
Using an established platform may reduce the amount of entirely new infrastructure required for a destination. However, European filings must still meet EU legal and technical requirements. Data must be complete, accurate and submitted at the proper stage.
GLSHK says its platform supports pre-arrival compliance checks, automated validation and customs filings. It also provides status information that can help operational teams understand whether a shipment is pending, cleared for loading, subject to further review or affected by another customs response.
These are operational support functions. They should not be described as automatic customs clearance. The legal decision remains with the responsible customs authority.
The European Union’s Import Control System 2, commonly called ICS2, is the central regulatory reason why advance cargo technology matters for the Prague route.
The European Commission describes ICS2 as an advance cargo information system intended to improve the safety and security of goods transported into or through the EU. Economic operators must submit security data through an Entry Summary Declaration, or ENS.
Customs authorities use that information to conduct safety and security risk analysis. The system is intended to identify higher-risk consignments more effectively while allowing legitimate goods to continue moving.
For air cargo, the EU requires a minimum dataset before goods are loaded onto the aircraft. This process is widely known as Pre-Loading Advance Cargo Information, or PLACI. A complete ENS is also required before arrival.
The pre-loading stage gives customs authorities an opportunity to analyse potential risks before a shipment begins its flight to the EU. Depending on the assessment, authorities can issue responses requiring clarification, screening or an instruction that goods must not be loaded.
The system covers goods brought into or transiting through EU customs territory. This means compliance can apply even when the final commercial destination lies beyond the airport of first arrival.
For STARLUX, the Prague operation therefore introduces a sophisticated European data environment. Cargo information must be available early enough to satisfy pre-loading requirements and detailed enough to support meaningful risk analysis.
An Entry Summary Declaration is more than a digital notice that cargo is on its way. It contains information used by customs authorities to assess the nature of a consignment and the parties involved in its movement.
The European Commission requires complete information appropriate to the transport mode and business model. Depending on contractual arrangements and which supply-chain participant holds particular data, operators may use either a single filing or multiple filings.
This creates shared responsibility across the cargo chain. Airlines, freight forwarders, postal operators, express carriers and other logistics participants may each hold different parts of the required information.
A carrier may possess flight, routing and master air waybill data. A freight forwarder may have more detailed house-level information about the shipper, consignee and goods. The compliance process must bring the required information together without creating contradictions or omissions.
The EU warns that incomplete or inaccurate data can result in intervention. Goods may be stopped at the border or may not be cleared when operators fail to meet applicable requirements.
Technology can help by checking whether required fields are present, testing data formats and transmitting messages within regulatory deadlines. It can also make customs responses visible to authorised users.
Yet technology cannot correct facts that were never collected properly. Shippers and forwarders must provide precise descriptions and reliable party information. Generic cargo descriptions may weaken risk assessment and trigger additional scrutiny.
EzyCustoms acts as a bridge between cargo participants and customs systems. Its purpose is to help airlines and logistics businesses transmit required information, validate messages and receive regulatory status updates.
For the STARLUX Prague route, GLSHK says the platform supports compliance with ICS2 and PLACI requirements. The company also links its customs services with its wider EzyCargo environment.
The practical value lies in workflow. Cargo data may originate with a freight forwarder before travelling through an airline’s booking and operational systems. Relevant information then needs to reach customs in an accepted format within the correct timeframe.
A connected platform can reduce repeated manual entry. It can also flag missing data before submission and provide operational teams with status information after customs has processed a filing.
This is particularly valuable for high-value cargo and time-sensitive freight. A shipment can lose commercial value when avoidable documentation problems cause it to miss a flight, remain on hold or require urgent correction.
However, the platform’s role must be stated accurately. EzyCustoms does not conduct the EU’s sovereign risk assessment. It does not decide whether a consignment poses a threat. It does not remove the power of customs officials to inspect, hold or reject goods.
Its role is to make regulatory communication more structured, timely and visible. The quality of the outcome still depends on the quality of source data and compliance by every responsible participant.
GLSHK says its customs-status capabilities are supported by IATA ONE Record, an industry standard designed to improve digital data sharing across the air cargo supply chain.
IATA’s official ONE Record fact sheet defines the standard as an API-based framework for secure, transparent and event-driven information exchange.
Its technical structure includes a common cargo data model, specifications for application programming interfaces and security provisions intended to protect data privacy and confidentiality.
The common model is important because airlines, forwarders, handlers and customs authorities have historically operated different systems. Information may be copied into several databases or exchanged through older message formats.
ONE Record aims to create a consistent digital view of a shipment. Authorised stakeholders can access relevant information through standardised connections instead of relying only on disconnected messages and manual updates.
IATA reports that ONE Record became its preferred data-sharing standard for air cargo stakeholders on 1 January 2026. More than 200 organisations had participated in pilots, implementation work or industry groups by June 2026.
The standard’s identified uses include air waybill information, shipment tracking, customs processes and multi modal transport. This makes customs-status integration a practical application rather than a purely conceptual project.
For STARLUX, real-time status visibility can help cargo teams respond more quickly when a filing is pending or requires action. It can also improve communication with forwarders whose shipments depend on the airline’s service.
The new service enters a cargo market that expanded sharply in 2025. Prague Airport reported 96,481,135 kilograms of cargo and mail, the highest annual volume in its history.
That represented a 48 per cent increase from 2024. Imports reached 58,672 tonnes, accounting for 61 per cent of the total and rising by 83 per cent year on year. Exports reached 37,809 tonnes, or 39 per cent of the total, after increasing by 14 per cent.
The official Prague Airport cargo report attributed the record partly to new scheduled freighter activity, greater capacity from existing cargo airlines, e-commerce demand and additional long-haul passenger routes.
This last factor is directly relevant to STARLUX. Passenger aircraft can carry commercial freight alongside baggage. The amount varies with aircraft configuration, passenger loads, route distance, fuel requirements and operational conditions.
Belly cargo can provide additional revenue without requiring a separate freighter flight. For shippers, it can add frequency and direct market access. For an airport, it can help support the commercial case for long-haul passenger connectivity.
The Prague figures do not reveal how much freight STARLUX will carry or guarantee that the route will become a major cargo corridor. They do, however, show that the airport has a substantial and rapidly expanding cargo base.
Official Czech statistics provide further context for the route’s cargo prospects. The Czech Statistical Office reported that high-technology goods were an important part of the national economy in 2025.
Czechia exported more than CZK570 billion in high-tech goods, equivalent to 11.9 per cent of total goods exports. High-tech imports reached approximately CZK742 billion and represented 16.2 per cent of goods imports.
The Czech Statistical Office’s high-technology trade data shows that computers, office machinery, electronics and telecommunications equipment remained among the most significant categories.
Its separate ICT dataset recorded CZK325.8 billion in ICT goods exports and CZK424.1 billion in ICT goods imports during 2025. The statistical office highlighted Czechia’s reliance on suppliers outside the EU, particularly in Asia.
Taiwan is internationally important in electronics and semiconductor supply chains, while Czechia has been strengthening its high-technology manufacturing and research relationships. Taiwan’s government has identified semiconductors, advanced manufacturing and supply-chain cooperation among the areas of bilateral engagement with Czech partners.
This does not mean every shipment on the route will involve semiconductors. Nor does it establish a guaranteed cargo volume. It does show why a direct air connection may be relevant to industries requiring rapid and controlled international logistics.
High-value components, prototypes, specialist equipment and urgent production inputs are examples of goods for which air transport may be commercially appropriate.
Cargo digitalisation is central to the GLSHK announcement, but the route’s public impact extends to passengers. Direct services remove the need for an intermediate air connection between Taipei and Prague.
This can reduce journey complexity for tourists, corporate travellers and people visiting friends or relatives. It may also provide additional connecting choices between Central Europe and STARLUX destinations across Asia.
Prague is an established international tourism destination, while Taiwan offers urban, cultural, culinary and natural attractions. A direct route can support destination marketing in both directions, although actual visitor growth will depend on fares, schedules, travel demand, economic conditions and sustained seat availability.
The service also arrives as Prague Airport expands beyond its earlier traffic records. Its 17.75 million passengers in 2025 exceeded the previous high set before the pandemic.
Prague Airport has connected the route with growing tourism and business ties. STARLUX, in the airport’s officially published statement, described Prague as an important step in its long-term network development and pointed to demand linked to business and semiconductor activity.
Such official statements express the expectations of the airline and airport. They should not be interpreted as independently proven forecasts.
The airport’s estimate of more than 95,000 passengers during the route’s first year provides a measurable benchmark. Future traffic reports will determine whether that projection is achieved.
STARLUX is positioning the Prague route as a premium long-haul product. The planned aircraft offer First Class, Business Class, Premium Economy and Economy.
According to Prague Airport, STARLUX became the only airline offering non-stop Taipei–Prague services with a First Class cabin when the route launched.
The four-class layout allows the carrier to target several market segments. First and Business Class can appeal to premium leisure customers and corporate travellers. Premium Economy provides an intermediate option, while Economy supplies most of the aircraft’s passenger capacity.
The commercial challenge will be balancing these cabins across different travel periods. Premium demand may be influenced by corporate ties, events and high-value tourism. Economy demand may respond more strongly to seasonal travel patterns and pricing.
Aircraft size also matters. The planned move from a 306-seat A350-900 to a 350-seat A350-1000 represents a meaningful capacity increase. Four weekly flights with the larger aircraft would provide substantial annual seat supply if the schedule operates consistently.
It would also create more theoretical cargo capacity. Actual available payload will vary from flight to flight because passenger baggage, fuel, weather, routing and operational restrictions affect how much freight can be accepted.
For freight customers, the principal benefit of the EzyCustoms deployment is not publicity surrounding a new route. It is the possibility of more predictable data handling.
International cargo moves through a chain of commercial and regulatory events. A booking must be accepted. Shipment information must be correct. Security requirements must be met. Customs data must be filed. Cargo must reach the terminal, pass handling checks and be loaded within a limited window.
A failure in one stage can affect the entire movement. Missing house-level information may delay a filing. An inconsistent goods description can trigger questions. A customs response may require action before loading.
Automated validation can identify some errors earlier. Status notifications can tell authorised participants when a filing remains under assessment. Faster visibility gives operators more time to correct data or change operational plans.
This can be particularly valuable for exporters and importers working with tight production schedules. A delayed component may interrupt manufacturing. A missed medical or temperature-sensitive shipment may face additional handling risk. An urgent e-commerce consignment may fail to meet its delivery promise.
No digital platform can eliminate every disruption. Weather, aircraft availability, security inspections and network changes remain possible. Nevertheless, clearer data can remove avoidable uncertainty from the customs stage.
ICS2 is not simply a trade facilitation tool. Its primary purpose is safety and security.
The European Commission describes advance information as the first line of defence for customs authorities.
Official EU guidance explains that customs controls can address smuggling, weapons, narcotics, terrorism risks, unsafe goods, health requirements, environmental restrictions and counterfeit products.
Risk analysis allows authorities to direct attention towards consignments requiring closer examination. This is intended to protect the public while minimising unnecessary disruption to legitimate trade.
Accurate data is therefore important for two connected reasons. It allows compliant shipments to be assessed using better information, and it makes suspicious or incomplete movements easier to identify.
Opening a route requires more than traffic rights, aircraft and airport handling. It also requires secure information flows that meet the destination market’s regulatory standards.
As customs systems become more data-driven, carriers and forwarders that cannot provide reliable information may face growing operational disadvantages.
A direct long-haul route can generate economic effects across aviation, tourism, logistics and trade. Airports receive aviation and commercial activity. Hotels, restaurants and attractions can benefit from visitors. Businesses gain additional transport options, while freight providers can build services around new capacity.
The Taipei–Prague connection may also help Czech and Taiwanese organisations hold meetings, conduct site visits and manage projects with fewer air connections. A new route must attract sufficient passengers and cargo across different seasons. It must also manage fuel costs, aircraft utilisation, regulatory requirements and competitive pressure.
Prague already has another direct Taipei connection through China Airlines. STARLUX therefore enters an existing market rather than creating the only air link between the cities. Its cabin product, schedule, pricing, connections and cargo service will influence its competitive position.
Additional airline choice can benefit travellers and freight customers. It can provide more departure options and potentially improve resilience when one service is unavailable. Yet market capacity must remain aligned with underlying demand.
The planned move to four weekly flights and a larger aircraft signals confidence.
star luxās European entry also places the route within the EU’s sustainable aviation fuel framework.
Prague Airport said departures by STARLUX would comply with the two per cent sustainable aviation fuel share associated with ReFuelEU Aviation.
The European Commission’s official ReFuelEU Aviation guidance confirms a two per cent sustainable aviation fuel share at EU airports from 2025. Eligible fuels can include synthetic aviation fuels, advanced biofuels and certain fuels produced from waste or residues, subject to sustainability criteria.
Compliance with the initial two per cent requirement does not make a long-haul flight emissions-free. Conventional jet fuel remains dominant, and aviation continues to produce significant greenhouse gas emissions.
The relevance is that European network expansion now carries both digital customs obligations and environmental fuel requirements. Airlines entering EU airports must integrate these rules into their operational and commercial planning.
The STARLUX–GLSHK deployment provides a practical example of three air cargo trends coming together: long-haul network growth, stricter advance information rules and wider use of standardised digital data.
First, passenger routes increasingly form part of cargo strategies. An airline does not need a dedicated freighter on a route to carry commercially important shipments.
Second, customs information is moving earlier in the journey. Authorities want data before arrival and, in air transport, before loading. This makes the accuracy of information at booking and forwarding stages more important.
Third, interoperable digital standards are becoming more influential. Cargo participants need to exchange information across different organisations without repeatedly reconstructing the same shipment record.
IATA’s adoption of ONE Record as its preferred data-sharing standard from January 2026 strengthens this direction. The standard is not a customs law, but it can support the movement of information needed by customs and commercial partners.
For airlines, the commercial question is whether better data produces measurable improvements. Relevant indicators could include fewer filing errors, quicker responses, reduced manual work, fewer missed shipments and better visibility for customers.
GLSHK has described benefits in these areas. Independent performance figures for the new Prague operation were not publicly available by 14 August 2026.
Prague is star luxās first European destination, not necessarily the final extent of its European ambitions. Prague Airport’s inauguration announcement said the airline planned to continue expanding its presence in the European market.
Applications, market reports and online speculation do not constitute a launched route.
Prague will therefore serve as an important test. The airline can evaluate passenger demand, premium cabin performance, connecting traffic, cargo volumes and the operational requirements of serving the EU.
The transition to four weekly services will be an early indicator. Another will be the planned introduction of the A350-1000, which adds passenger capacity and potentially more lower-hold cargo space.
Cargo performance may be particularly important because Prague Airport has stated that freight can contribute economically to long-haul passenger services. The airport’s record 2025 cargo result provides a favourable base, but STARLUX must establish its own customer relationships and shipment flows.
EzyCustoms can support compliance as the network grows.
