The proposal will soon be approved by the government after going through all formalities, Raju said this while inaugurating a joint workshop of tourism and transport departments held in Kochi to consider the operational details of the Caravan Tourism policy and alert regional transport officers (RTOs) regarding the procedural and regulatory aspects of the project.
Going forth, this plan is seen as a major step in tourism development. Presiding over the inaugural session of the workshop, Riyas asked the motor vehicles department to make sure that the registration of caravan vehicles and issue of permits to them are carried out in a stress-free manner. The tax on caravans must be reduced to Rs. 250 per square metre from the current Rs. 1,000 per sq. m., Riyas said in his address.
As per government’s policy, every panchayat and municipality must have at least one tourist destination.
For their smooth every day running, the government has decided to register active participation of local self-government institutions.
