Korean Air has launched new eco-friendly uniforms designed specifically for its maintenance, aerospace, cargo, and ground handling teams. These updated uniforms are scheduled for release on April 1st and have been carefully crafted to meet the diverse needs of the airline’s workforce.

The primary focus of the new uniforms is on safety and functionality. They feature specially designed fabrics that reduce the risk of electrical accidents, along with an updated design that includes knee pads for added protection when necessary. Additionally, the summer uniforms include breathable mesh patches behind the knees, while reflective tape enhances visibility in low-light conditions. The uniform range includes t-shirts, vests, windbreakers, and heavy jackets, catering to various tasks and weather conditions, giving employees the flexibility to choose suitable attire for their specific roles.

In line with Korean Air’s commitment to sustainability, the materials used in the uniforms are environmentally certified. For instance, the winter jacket is made from Sympatex textile, known for its thermal insulation, waterproofing, and windproofing properties, and has received certifications from Bluesign and OEKO-TEX Standard 100, renowned environmental labels in Europe for textiles. This eco-friendly fabric can either be recycled or naturally decomposed without causing harm to the environment.

These new uniforms mark the first significant update for maintenance, aerospace, cargo, and ground handling teams in 38 years, dating back to 1986. Employee feedback played a pivotal role in the design process to ensure practicality. Features like additional pockets for equipment have been incorporated based on employee needs. The uniforms were developed considering the diverse nature of tasks, and a trial fitting event took place at Korean Air’s headquarters in Seoul, the Busan Tech Center, and Incheon Hangar over a four-day period starting from March 26th.

This initiative follows the successful upgrade of safety footwear for staff working in airports, hangars, and cargo terminals in May 2023. Employees were given the opportunity to select from a range of safety shoes and try them on before making their choice.
