The Lake District’s Haweswater Hotel, often described as a ‘hidden gem,’ has recently enhanced its outdoor artistic display by introducing three horse sculptures to the sculpture park on its premises. These metallic equine figures are the creation of John Birkett, an artist with over four decades of expertise in the architectural metalwork industry. Birkett, known for his unique and custom pieces that have found places of honor both locally and across the nation, including prestigious sites like the Houses of Parliament and Kensington Palace, expressed his excitement over the integration of his sculptures into the stunning landscape of the hotel.
Renata Fernandes, the curator of the hotel’s art program and Art Director at Escapade Silverstone, emphasized their intention to enrich the serene and secluded environment of Haweswater with a select number of distinctive artworks. She highlighted the natural surroundings as an ideal backdrop for showcasing artistic creativity.
In addition to adorning the hotel’s grounds, all the artworks, including the newly added sculptures, are up for sale, offering visitors a chance to own a piece of this creative display. The Haweswater Hotel itself has recently garnered recognition, being included in the Times’ list of the “100 Best Places to Stay in the UK for 2024,” and also featuring in the compilation of “35 of the best hotels in Britain for under £150.”
This artistic endeavor not only elevates the aesthetic appeal of the Haweswater Hotel but also contributes to its standing as a destination of choice for those seeking a unique blend of natural beauty and cultural enrichment, marking it as a significant point of interest on the global travel map.
