Lebanon Transit has disclosed its plan to modify some of its routes in an effort to enhance service for the community. The announcement highlighted the introduction of new destinations, additional stops, and the inclusion of evening trips on certain routes as part of the improvements aimed at better accommodating the public’s needs.

Teri Giurintano, the executive director of Lebanon Transit, stated in a press release that these adjustments are a response to the community’s rapid growth and a move to meet customer demands more effectively.

The upcoming changes are outlined as follows:

The expansion of routes to include new destinations such as the Lebanon Valley Expo Center; North Cornwall Commons, which hosts Mick’s All American Pub, Fairfield Inn, among other establishments; Chestnut View Apartments (soon to be developed on the site of the former Lebanon Catholic School), and downtown Hershey on Saturdays.
The rerouting of services to Weis Markets and ALDI on the east side of Lebanon to different routes.
The inclusion of additional stops at the Lebanon VA Medical Center.
The introduction of more evening trips to popular shopping destinations, including Lebanon Walmart and Lebanon Plaza, which houses Kohl’s and other retailers.
The implementation of route adjustments to bypass delays at rail crossings in Lebanon City by optimizing the use of 9th and 10th Streets.
The streamlining of routes to reduce the number of turns and remove sections with low ridership, such as the segment to Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course.
These revisions will impact 10 of Lebanon Transit’s fixed bus routes: Routes 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8 (Saturday only), 16, 16C, 17, and Route 10 Old Forge Express. Furthermore, Route SS (Saturday Special) will be rebranded as Route 7.

The implementation of these route changes is scheduled for Monday, April 1. Lebanon Transit will make updated route maps and schedules accessible online, on all buses, at the Transfer Station at 7th and Willow Streets, and at Lebanon Transit’s main office at 200 Willow Street in Lebanon starting March 31.

There are no modifications planned for the Commute King Express services to Harrisburg, Route 88, or Shared Ride services, according to Lebanon Transit.

The enhancements to Lebanon Transit’s services are anticipated to significantly benefit tourism within the area. By connecting to new destinations and offering more accessible and convenient transportation options, these changes are expected to attract more visitors to local attractions, businesses, and shopping centers.

The expansion of evening trips and the streamlining of routes are poised to improve the overall travel experience for tourists, encouraging longer stays and increased spending in the region. This strategic initiative by Lebanon Transit not only responds to the needs of the growing community but also plays a crucial role in boosting local tourism and supporting the economic development of Lebanon and its surrounding areas.
