New research conducted by London Luton Airport (LLA) reveals that when it comes to holiday companions, mothers hold the title of Most Valued Passenger (MVP). The study indicates that nearly a third (30%) of travelers would opt to travel with their mothers over friends for a getaway.
Despite acknowledging that they don’t spend enough quality time with their mothers, as indicated by over a fifth (22%) of respondents, there’s a noticeable shift in travel trends. Seven in 10 (69%) express a desire for one-on-one holidays with their mothers to enhance bonding (71%), create cherished memories (59%), and express gratitude for their maternal support (48%).
Furthermore, 71% believe that holidaying with their mothers guarantees dedicated quality time, and 48% express interest in making such trips a recurring tradition. Interestingly, two-thirds (66%) recall fond memories of time spent with their mothers during family vacations.
With an anticipated 135,000 passengers traveling through London Luton Airport during Mother’s Day weekend, the airport is extending complimentary lounge access and fast track security passes for those embarking on trips with their mothers, adding an extra touch to Mother’s Day celebrations.
The importance of nurturing deeper maternal relationships is evident, with almost two-fifths (38%) expressing a desire to strengthen their bond with their mothers, ranging from showing gratitude for their support (52%) to committing to more frequent communication (25%). A significant majority (61%) are open to going on holidays with their mothers to foster stronger connections, while 43% view it as an opportunity to rekindle their relationship.
In a survey of 2,000 individuals, over half (57%) express a wish to surprise their mothers with a getaway on Mothering Sunday, highlighting the significance of the occasion compared to other milestones such as Christmas, birthdays, or anniversaries for nearly one in five respondents (19%).
Clare Armstrong, Head of Guest Experience at London Luton Airport says, “It’s heartwarming to see that over half (55%) of holidaymakers want to go on adventures with their Mum, whether it’s a getaway abroad or a cherished moment closer to home.
“We’re thrilled to offer travellers flying with their mums this weekend some exclusive extras to get their trip off to the best possible start, including fast-track security and complimentary passes to the recently opened No1 Lounge in the LLA terminal, as part of our commitment to providing a simple and friendly passenger experience.”
When it comes to getaway desires, a significant portion of adults seek the thrill of city breaks (66%), the serenity of beach retreats (59%), and the luxury of upscale vacations (50%).
