Construction has commenced on a new conference and visitor center by the Lufthansa Group, strategically located near the Lufthansa Aviation Center (LAC) at Frankfurt Airport. This initiative is part of an ongoing consolidation effort initiated in 2020, aimed at reducing office and administrative space in various local buildings by approximately 60,000 square meters, or 30%, by year’s end.

The landscape of office utilization has been reshaped permanently in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Emerging work modalities emphasize collaboration and flexibility, rendering the traditional office more of a rendezvous point for dynamic team endeavors. At Lufthansa, administrative functions increasingly operate within cross-departmental frameworks, engaging in interdisciplinary projects. Accordingly, adaptable collaboration spaces are supplanting conventional office layouts. Within the LAC, over 3,200 square meters have been transformed into ‘collaboration hubs’.

Aligned with these evolving trends, the forthcoming Lufthansa Group conference and visitor center at Frankfurt Airport will serve as a hub for innovative collaboration among the Group’s personnel. Moreover, it aims to attract clientele, business partners, and aviation enthusiasts alike. Embodying Lufthansa’s pioneering ethos and expertise, the center will spotlight the future trajectory of aviation while celebrating the company’s storied legacy. Notably, it will house two meticulously restored Lufthansa aircraft: the iconic Junkers Ju 52, affectionately dubbed Iron Annie, and the revered Lockheed L-1649 Super Star bearing the registration D-ALAN, undergoing restoration at Lufthansa Technik in Hamburg. These aircraft will be visible from afar, courtesy of the building’s expansive transparent facade.

Designed by Frankfurt-based architects AS+P Albert Speer + Partner, the luminous hangar-style edifice spans 72 meters in width, 17.5 meters in height, and 53 meters in length, boasting a total floor area of approximately 3,800 square meters. Goldbeck, a building and service company, has been entrusted with its construction. The center is slated for a grand opening in spring 2026, coinciding with the centenary of the founding of the first Luft Hansa.

Incorporating an efficient and sustainable energy concept, the facility will feature an extensive green roof, a photovoltaic system with a peak output of approximately 11 kilowatts (with potential for expansion), geothermal heat pumps, and ground collectors. Furthermore, an empty conduit system will facilitate future provision of e-charging stations in the parking area.
