Carnival Cruise Line, in collaboration with the Grand Bahama Ministry and the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Culture, is thrilled to launch a community-driven contest to find a name for the new Artisan Village at Celebration Key™. This competition is open to all residents of Grand Bahama and will conclude on March 25, 2024. A panel, consisting of local leaders and cultural industry representatives, will then shortlist finalists, with the winner set to be revealed in early April.

The lucky winner will receive a prize package that includes B$5,000 in cash, an invitation to the Artisan Village’s opening ceremony with provided transport, meals, and beverages, plus a day-pass to Celebration Key. This pass includes drink vouchers, meals, and access to a private cabana for an unforgettable experience.

Designed as a dynamic cultural hub, the Artisan Village will offer local artists and craftspeople a place to display their work and share the richness of their culture with international visitors. It’s a highlight of the ambitious $600 million Celebration Key development, marking Carnival Corporation’s most significant project to date.

“We are extremely excited about this competition,” said Carnival Corporation & plc’s Public Affairs and Community Engagement Director Philcher Grant-Adderley. “Carnival has sought to prioritize authentic Bahamian culture throughout every aspect of this project, from the food to the architecture, and nowhere more than in the Artisan Village which we envision as a cornerstone of the entire destination. It is only fitting that the name should be chosen by a Bahamian.

“We can hardly wait to see the creative, inspired submissions that we know will be submitted. I encourage all Grand Bahamians to take part, get your submissions in early and submit as many ideas as you have!”

Submissions for the naming contest can come from anyone – whether you’re entering as an individual, with your family, as part of a group, through a local organization, or as a classroom effort. For participants younger than 18, a Release Form filled out by a parent or guardian is required.

To enter, please visit: www.celebrationkeygrandbahama.com. Your submission should be accompanied by a brief (200-300 words) explanation of your chosen name, detailing its connection to both Celebration Key and the broader Bahamian culture. You’re welcome to propose multiple names, but please submit each one individually.

Please ensure that your suggestions avoid using the names of any current businesses, brands, political figures, or specific individuals, things, and places. Additionally, contest eligibility requires participants to follow the official Celebration Key Facebook and Instagram pages.

Following the announcement of an extra $100 million investment in a pier extension, the Celebration Key project now represents a $600 million investment by Carnival Corporation, the largest project of its kind. The first phase, including the construction of two cruise ship berths, is expected to create over 700 permanent local jobs, with around 300 Bahamians employed directly by Carnival Corporation. This initiative aims to welcome 2.2 million visitors annually to Grand Bahama starting in 2025.

With the completion of two additional berths, Celebration Key is set to accommodate up to 4 million visitors each year to Grand Bahama by 2028, significantly boosting the local economy and tourism sector.

Grant-Adderley added: “We are committed to making this a mutually beneficial partnership, creating shared value with the community. Carnival wants to empower as many Bahamians as possible through Celebration Key, whether they be restaurant owners, retail operators, artisans or cultural creatives.

“Bahamian architects have collaborated on the design of the destination in an effort to ensure its character is as authentically Bahamian as possible, most especially the Artisan Village. It seems natural that its name be chosen by a Grand Bahamian.”
