For the second month in a row, the airport has shattered records, marking its busiest December followed by an even more bustling January.

Dubai emerged as the top choice for travelers in January, attracting those in pursuit of winter sunshine either for its offerings or as a gateway to further destinations.

With the onset of many schools’ half-term in February, the airport anticipates a surge in activity. It expects nearly 700,000 travelers from February 9 to February 18, with Tenerife and Alicante being among the favored destinations.

Passenger experience at the airport is poised for positivity, as data from January reveals that 99.9% of passengers spent less than 15 minutes in security queues, and a remarkable 90% waited under five minutes.

Chris Woodroofe, Managing Director of Manchester Airport, shared:

“January offers an excellent opportunity for travel, whether it’s to soak up some sun or enjoy winter sports, benefiting from quieter times and attractive deals, a trend we’ve observed here at Manchester Airport.

“With our extensive network of about 200 routes, we connect the North to a wider array of destinations than any other airport outside London, offering unparalleled choice for trips ranging from Bolton to Bodrum or Bradford to Beijing, throughout the year.

“As we enter one of the year’s first peak periods due to the half-term break, we’re ready to accommodate the influx. Given that 99.9% of our passengers in January cleared security in less than 15 minutes, we’re confident in providing a seamless start to holidays for everyone departing this week.

“We’re gearing up for an exciting year ahead at Manchester Airport with several new routes launching, including a direct flight to Las Vegas in June and more to be announced. Additionally, we’re advancing our Terminal 2’s transformation, part of our £1.3 billion program, towards completion.”

January’s top destinations were Dubai, Dublin, Amsterdam, Tenerife, and Qatar.

Manchester Airport is set to introduce new routes, including Virgin Atlantic’s direct flights to Las Vegas, making it the only airport outside London offering direct flights to America’s West Coast, along with Royal Jordanian’s service to Amman and Luxair’s flights to Luxembourg. The frequency of flights to Beijing with Hainan Airlines will also increase to daily.

January also marked the anniversary of the commencement of the final phase of the airport’s £1.3 billion transformation. The new Terminal 2 is operational but expansion continues, aiming to double its size and serve over 70% of passengers by 2025. The first phase received the prestigious Prix Versailles, acknowledging it as one of the world’s most beautiful airport buildings.

Upcoming milestones include the announcement of new retailers, bars, and restaurants in Terminal 2 and the launch of an advanced baggage system.
