Marriott International has declared a partnership with Morogoro Mishama Company to launch Le Méridien Hotels & Resorts in Zanzibar by 2025. This move is aimed at meeting the increasing need for upscale lodging in Tanzania, with Le Méridien Zanzibar Resort planning to unveil 75 luxurious rooms along with the brand’s iconic, elegant offerings. These offerings are designed to immerse guests in the local culture, geography, and gastronomy.

“Zanzibar is quickly becoming a premier destination for vacationers, and we are dedicated to further boosting the tourism industry in Tanzania,” expressed Karim Cheltout, Regional Vice President – Development, Africa, at Marriott International. “The modern aesthetic, alluring environments, and distinctive, stylish experiences of Le Méridien are perfectly suited for the island. We are excited to collaborate with Morogoro Mishama Company to bring this venture to fruition by year’s end.”

The planned Le Méridien Zanzibar Resort is set to feature 75 modern rooms and villas, offering guests panoramic views of the Indian Ocean and a deep dive into the brand’s philosophy of crafting engaging, stylish experiences that encourage guests to discover the locale in elegance. The resort is expected to include a fine dining restaurant, a breezy outdoor bar, and multiple leisure amenities like a gym, swimming pool, spa, children’s play area, and a serene lagoon. On its opening, the resort aims to capture the quintessential Le Méridien spirit, inviting visitors to ‘Savour the Good Life’ with experiences steeped in the brand’s European legacy. It will be located in Bwejuu on Zanzibar Island’s Eastern shoreline.

“We are thrilled to announce our second collaboration with Marriott International in the region by bringing Le Méridien Zanzibar Resort to fruition. This milestone underscores our continued commitment to enhancing Tanzania’s hospitality landscape and reinforcing Zanzibar’s appeal as a premier leisure destination to visitors across the world,” said Rishen Patel, Managing Director, Morogoro Mishama Company.

Delaware Investment Limited’s affiliate, Morogoro Mishama Company, is renowned for its expertise in developing high-end hotel projects across Africa. For this franchised venture, Morogoro Mishama Company and Marriott International are joining forces with ALEPH Hospitality, which is celebrated for its skill in managing premium accommodations in various locales, to serve as the third-party operator.

“We are very excited to be entrusted with the operations of Le Méridien Zanzibar Resort,” said Bani Haddad, Founder and Managing Director of Aleph Hospitality. “This stunning, modern resort will be an incredible addition to the hospitality offering in Zanzibar, which has seen a surge in growth with international tourism arrivals surpassing a record one million mark just last month.”
