Maryland State Parks will be providing First Weekend hike opportunities all over the state. It’s starting from December 31st, 2023 and will continue till January 2nd, 2024. First Day Hikes are part of a countrywide campaign managed by the State Parks of America that inspires all 50 states to provide opportunities related to outdoor hiking on the first day of the brand New-Year! Enthusiasts can easily join them in Maryland and its famous parks located in Allegany County, Fredrick County, Garrett County and others starting from January 1st or all through the first weekend of 2024 for a hike at a state park that’s closest to one’s location.
There are two types of hikes available for 2024:
Ranger-led hikes: These types of hiking activities will be managed by a Park Ranger and they have exact start times and need pre-registration to be a part of this effort. One is requested to read the details carefully before registering.
Self-guided hikes: These types of hikes will be available all through the weekend, on well-marked trails. Skilled volunteers and park staffs are going to be available to get one started, however, will not be joining the person on the hiking activity. Reading the details with precision are requested.
I Hiked Stickers will be available on the first day of the hike at selected locations while supplies last!
