Mexico sees an uptick in international visitor numbers during the first quarter of this year

Tourism officials in Mexico said that the country saw an uptick in international visitor numbers during the first quarter of this year.


Mexico Tourism Minister Miguel Torruco said that 5.02 million international tourists arrived by commercial airlines between January and March, marking an increase of 138.5 percent compared to the same period last year.


Of the 5.02 million travelers arriving in Mexico this year till now, 3.88 million or 77 percent of the total came from three countries, i.e. Canada, Colombia and the United States.The number of U.S. tourists is 14.1 percent higher than the same period in 2019.


Canada taking away its travel restrictions also helped Mexico’s tourism numbers climb, with almost 511,000 Canadians visiting the country in the first three months of this year, which is a 1,446 percent increase compared to the first quarter of last year.
