It has been announced that Quintana Roo will benefit from new national air routes, including a connection from Felipe Ángeles Airport to Chetumal by Viva Aerobus, and additional flights to the newly named Tulum airport serviced by Aeroméxico and Volaris.

Walfred Castro, the Communication Director at Viva Aerobus, mentioned that the inclusion of a daily flight to Chetumal is a strategic part of their expansion plan for the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA). He emphasized that Chetumal represents a significant opportunity to draw more tourists to the capital of Quintana Roo.

Further efforts are being made to enhance air connectivity with other Mexican destinations. For instance, the route from Acapulco to Cancun, which currently operates only seasonally, is being worked on to become a more regular service, similar to the Cozumel to Monterrey route that Viva Aerobus maintains.

Aeroméxico is set to start operating two daily flights to the new Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport in Tulum beginning May 2. Concurrently, Volaris has initiated ticket sales for a new route from Guadalajara to Tulum that will commence on December 4.

These developments were discussed during the Mexican Tourist Tianguis in Acapulco, Guerrero. This event facilitated further discussions with airlines, including Volaris and American Airlines, as well as Viva Aerobus and Aeroméxico, aimed at establishing at least four additional routes to the airports in Quintana Roo.

Volaris has also confirmed a new route to McAllen, which is scheduled to start on July 3, offering two flights a week to Cancun International Airport.

Quintana Roo currently boasts connections from its four airports to 42 cities in the United States, 20 in Canada, 18 in Latin America, and 24 within Mexico. This extensive network underscores the state’s leading role in attracting international tourists to Mexico, with a record 6.6 million visitors arriving in February alone, according to the latest figures from Inegi.
