Mexico upholds safety procedures as main concerns to assure the health and welfare of its worldwide visitors, with an open-door strategy, averting crowds in its key destinations.

Till now, Mexico has adhered to the recommendations of both the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) and the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) to approve the retrieval of the national tourism sector, as the worst hit sector by the shutting of borders and isolationist rules implemented by many countries.

Regarding the pandemic, Mexico government authorities agreed with private companies on three simple activities: not to shut down air limits for visitors from any country, execute health measures, and carry on the vaccination procedures.
Accordingly, in 2021, Mexico emerged as the second most visited country globally, according to the UNWTO, with 31.9 million tourists. In 2020 as well, Mexico ranked as the third most visited country with 24.3 million tourists, exceeding France and Italy, respectively.

The Mexico Ministry of Tourism clarified that the country graduated from third to second among the most visited countries globally since it did not shut down its borders in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mexico’s most distinguished progress was recorded from 2019 to 2020 when the country graduated from seventh to third place in the grades.

From the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak, Mexico set the guidelines for renewing tourism, covering air transport, cruise ships, land transport, restaurants, hotels, stadiums, sun and beach destinations, water parks, theaters and museums.
