American Airlines initiated its inaugural commercial service from Miami International Airport to Ocho Rios, Jamaica, marking its third destination in the country. Officials representing Miami-Dade County, American Airlines, the Jamaica Tourist Board, and the Consul General of Jamaica in Miami convened for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to commemorate this significant flight to Ian Fleming International Airport (OCJ). Miami International Airport stands as the first U.S. airport to offer service to Ocho Rios, with American Airlines being the sole U.S. carrier providing nonstop flights from MIA to OCJ. This direct connection grants travelers convenient access to the sought-after destination just in time for the spring break season.

“We are thrilled to be the only U.S. airport with nonstop service to Ocho Rios, and to also have Kingston and Montego Bay within our Jamaica route network. Jamaica continues to be one of MIA’s busiest international markets, generating 600,000 travelers annually. With spring break just around the corner and summer vacations coming soon, we look forward to welcoming thousands of passengers traveling between Ocho Rios and Miami-Dade.”

Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava

The addition of the Ocho Rios service supplements existing flights from MIA to Kingston (KIN) and Montego Bay (MBJ), along with connections to 45 distinct destinations across Mexico, the Caribbean, and Latin America. American Airlines inaugurated nonstop service from Miami International Airport to Governor’s Harbour, Bahamas (GHB) on February 3rd.

“American Airlines is making history today and we’re proud to provide exclusive access to this Caribbean paradise so our customers can experience its white sand, waterfalls, rich culture and opportunities for relaxation and adventure. As Miami’s Hometown Airline, we are thrilled to continue expanding our network across the Caribbean and to more than 150 destinations worldwide.”

Juan Carlos Liscano, American’s Vice President of MIA Hub Operations

With the expansion of its robust international schedule, American Airlines is currently operating its largest schedule ever at Miami International Airport, boasting 390 peak-day flights during this winter season.
