Milan Bergamo Airport is excited to announce a significant increase in flights and seating capacity to North Africa, demonstrating its dedication to emerging markets and extending its global reach beyond Europe.

Nile Air will join the network, launching three weekly flights from Milan Bergamo to Cairo starting June 28. These flights, on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, will be operated using a modern 164-seat Airbus A320, ensuring a comfortable journey for travelers. The new service offers direct access to Egypt’s historic capital and provides convenient connections to various destinations in the Gulf region.

This year, Milan Bergamo has seen a remarkable surge in its North African operations, with seven airlines now connecting the airport to the region, providing over 660,000 seats—a 48% increase from 2019 and nearly 10% growth year-over-year.

Morocco and Egypt are key markets for Milan Bergamo, with a diverse range of flights meeting different travel needs. The airport’s growth in North African flights began significantly in 2008 with Ryanair’s introduction of a service to Fez, Morocco. Air Arabia Maroc’s entry in 2009 with its Casablanca service further enhanced this connectivity. Milan Bergamo stands out as the only European airport hosting all three Air Arabia airlines, offering flights to Alexandria, Cairo, and Casablanca. This summer, Air Arabia Egypt will maintain the highest flight frequency and capacity to Cairo.

Other airlines complementing Nile Air in serving North Africa from Milan Bergamo include Ryanair, AlbaStar, TUI, Neos, and Malta Med Air, partnering with tour operators for leisure travel. Additionally, Ryanair is set to boost its service to the region with a new route to Beni Mellal, Morocco, starting on June 1.

Milan Bergamo now connects passengers to ten North African destinations, featuring six in Morocco and four in Egypt, such as Agadir, Beni Mellal, Casablanca, Fez, Marrakech, Tangier, Alexandria, Cairo, Marsa Alam, and Sharm El Sheikh.

Giacomo Cattaneo, Director of Commercial Aviation, SACBO, said: “The growing connectivity between Milan Bergamo Airport and North Africa is a testament to the strategic importance of this region for our airport. We recognise the immense potential that North Africa holds in terms of tourism, business, and cultural exchanges. The record number of airlines operating between Milan Bergamo and North Africa, along with the substantial increase in seat capacity, highlights our dedication to meeting the evolving needs of travellers. We are confident that our partnership with airlines, coupled with the attractiveness of North African destinations, will fuel further expansion in the coming years.”

Milan Bergamo Airport is expanding its reach in North Africa, offering travelers improved connectivity and a variety of travel choices suitable for all budgets and preferences. The airport remains key in enabling smooth travel between Italy and North Africa, creating new possibilities for passengers and aiding the economic growth of the region.
